OK, a double barreled question.

Where are the "barcode readers"? I work in electronic security and I can't see anything resembling any readers I've ever encountered. Show me, show me.

First officers did double-duty during the TOS era.
At the 4:44 mark: Star Trek: Secrets of the Universe (83 min)^ "No one could effectively do their jobs in that environment."
That reminds me of a scene in the recent "Science of STID" special recently aired, at one point Abrams can be seen holding his hand over the left side of a monitor to block the glare as he watches the scene.![]()

While the color scheme is far too bright. I think this was address in 2009 that the decor was borrowed from the Star Wars aesthetics. 1701=good (white), ala Rebel Blockade Runner & Nero's ship=bad (dark), ala Star Destroyer interior (grey-black scheme).

It looks to me like he's blocking what's going to be out of the final frame (note how his hand lines up with a rectangle delineated on-screen).At the 4:44 mark: Star Trek: Secrets of the Universe (83 min)That reminds me of a scene in the recent "Science of STID" special recently aired, at one point Abrams can be seen holding his hand over the left side of a monitor to block the glare as he watches the scene.![]()
