Will they ever paint the bridge?

I love the bridge! I think its perfect! And I like that they kept it exactly the same as it was in ST09....

The only thing I dont get about this bridge is the bar-code readers... what are they supposed to do other than be set dressing?
GNDN projectors.

OK, a double barreled question.

GNDN????
Some of the conduits along walls of the Original Series sets had labels identifying them as "GNDN" (which stood for 'Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing') - i.e., they were just for appearance, having no specified in-story purpose.

Where are the "barcode readers"? I work in electronic security and I can't see anything resembling any readers I've ever encountered. Show me, show me.
Visible in imranbecks' picture above at the center of the helm/navigation console are two countertop-model laser checkout scanners. A few TBBS posters who work in retail spotted them in early trailers for the 2009 movie. (See also: the link in BeatleJWOL's post here.)

The only problem I have with the bridge is a nagging question that popped into my head ever since Pike made Kirk his first officer early in the movie.

Where is the first officer's station on this Enterprise's bridge, or on any TOS Enterprise bridge? Really. Seriously. Where's his place? Think about it. In all of TOS and now, Spock has doubled as science officer and first officer, so he occupies the science station. However, what if he was just first officer and not the science officer? Then what? Does he just stand next to the captain's chair? Is that what Kirk would've done with Pike in command?

Thank God they remedied this glaring mistake of a place for the first officer on the TNG Enterprise. At least Riker had a seat.

Thats what Decker did, he kind of just hung out between the Captains Chair and the Science station helping Spock he came back.

I imagine if we had seen Pike in command with Kirk as first officer he would be at one of the side stations to one side of the Helm/Nav console, which is where I believe his father sat on the Kelvin as First Officer.

Maybe it's just me, but I would expect that (at least on a modern military vessel - Starfleet may feel differently) that most of the time, you wouldn't have the first officer on the bridge when the captain is. Part of their job is to take command during one of the other shifts when the captain is off-duty. You don't want them working 16 hour days - that way lies madness.

Your probably right there, until the event there is a combat situation where his or her place would be on the Bridge, you could argue he still doesnt need a station to sit at though as he could go between different officers to assist them and/or give information to the Captain without breaking the officer at that stations concentration (kind of like how Riker would between Ops and Tactical).
