Will the fact that Trek fans are already hating on the movie...

Re: Will the fact of Trek fans not being sure about this movie...

Make non fans want to see it more?

I've been thinking about this ever since a coworker (He hates all things Trek...except Nemesis) said he had a glimmer of hope that the movie will be good because of the reaction.

I'm thinking alot more people ,who have stayed clear of Trek may have this opinion.
He ''HATES'' all things TREK...except NEMESIS!?:wtf::lol:

Yeah he has high praise for that film.

really?! so what does he like about it? I'm exceedingly curious! can you find out and let us know?

STUDIO BOARD ROOM

'It appears 5 guys who still live in there mom's basement don't like the movie... right that's it, stop the planned DVD release, remove the films, recall the merchandinse, no-one's watching it'.

REALITY CHECK

No-one cares!

The movie looks awesome, it won't cater to everyone's taste, but it sure as hell will appeal to the masses, and that's what the studio wants, Star Trek might have a huge fan base, but not enough to spend millions of dollars just for them, to fuel there ego's on what a startrek movie should be like.

I have a good one for you: this is Star Trek, so you're right, no one really does except for Star Trek fans.

The movie looks awesome,
It looks awesome to you, but it looks horrible to me.

What masses? The ones that only seem to care about a movie if it has action, explosions, and tits? Why should I or anyone else care what they think?

Star Trek might have a huge fan base, but not enough to spend millions of dollars just for them, to fuel there ego's on what a startrek movie should be like.
And sometimes it's not such a great thing to have a huge budget anyway, because sometimes smaller budgets actually produce movies with better stories instead of trying to stun and amaze everyone with the latest VFX technology can produce.

It will definitely draw a different kind of crowd than previous trek movies, but honestly for this franchise to continue on, it needs some new blood. So I think it is a good thing that this 'is not your father's trek'. New blood is good.

Well he said that the movie has nothing to do with Star Trek (I think he may have picked up on the director not caring about continuity) ,and that it was closer in tone to Star wars.

I'm expecting to go see this film, and as I go towards the cinema doors a fat guy with a Ghostbusters-like anti-Abrams logo from the cult of the Canon Keepers runs up to me shouting "For the love of God don't see this film! IT VIOLATES CANON!". Well, if you don't like it don't see the movie. For every one die-hard fan who stays away muttering about how a studio has reworked a commercial property for a wider audience to gain greater commercial success (which IS the point of Star Trek full stop), a few more will go see it.

As I said before, making a completely canon-loyal TOS film would have sucked. If it's intending to be retro and ironic, then yes. But serious scenes taking place on a 60s styled set would just have resembled a fan film rather than a Hollywood film, and created a movie only a small selection of the audience would have wanted to see. I enjoy New Voyages, but mainly for a sense of nostalgia. If it was up on the big screen and I'd payed £4.50 to see it, it would just be rubbish.

When Doctor Who was reinvented for a new audience, thousands of hardcore fans cried and said they wanted an old-style series, but the producers ignored them. It was a good decision - it reinvigorated the show and found it a new audience, rather than being the massive joke it was. Abrams similarly is wise to ignore the voices of those demanding one hundred per cent compliance with what has happened before, and I'm sure it'll pay off.

And at the end of the day: it isn't real, and it's there to make money and the copyright of Paramount. They can do whatever they want with it, and they have.
