I've been thinking about this ever since a coworker (He hates all things Trek...except Nemesis) said he had a glimmer of hope that the movie will be good because of the reaction.

I'm thinking alot more people ,who have stayed clear of Trek may have this opinion.

It's only a tiny minority of "purists" who are "hating" (and for many that term is too strong imo - more just a dislike for certain aspects).

Still, if that 5% can persuade some of the mainstream that the movie's not a total nerdfest that would help.

Hopefully some folks will picket in Trek costumes or something.

how does he know that trekkies are hating this movie? did you tell him or did he read it somewhere? I've been watching trek for about three decades. I am an OLD TIMER. I have a decidedly positive reaction to this movie. sure, I don't like certain spoilers I've heard, but I sure as hell want more Trek.

I hang around with a lot of non-fans, and strangely, most of them want to see it! So that means it going to be awful.

Yep, and nuBSG got a lot of extra publicity when James Edward Olmos advised the hard-core oldBSG fans not to watch his show.

yeah there is some and if it gets him to see it fine.
just dont tell him a lot of us tos first generation are looking forward to the movie..
