Will the Enterprise get a grand entrance?

I'm also betting there's going to be some form of delayed gratification at play regarding the Enterprise in this movie. It won't be in the very first opening shot maybe midway first quarter we'll get our first look at her.

The opening shot will either be of another vessel or planet bound and if I had to bet money I say it will be planet bound perhaps on Vulcan?

I want to see some sign that it starts in a post-nemesis era, through ships, interiors, and uniforms, then, we go back and it switches to JJ's vision. If the older sets look grander and still feel a little technologically clunky, then it will be like nostalgia in feel "The Good Old Days" and I still get a bit of me 24th Century :)

Has anybody suggested what seems to me to be an obvious plot possibility?

That the ship, whether it is supposed to get a grand sendoff or not, gets stolen, and so Kirk is the guy who gets it back. You might even have a 'recover or destroy' moment, where Kirk finally decides on caution and doesn't waste the ship, going against orders but in support of his crew (like Spock, who is probably spending the whole movie wishing it were logical to knock his head against the wall when dealing with Kirk.)

You could have a couple great see her moments, an E-b type intro, and then a much more heroic one where Kirk brings her back, tarnished but looking pretty good (maybe with all those aztec marks burned off by a close solar approach.) The latter would be when you'd want to let lose with your theme, after the ship and Kirk have done their stuff.

Hey Lloyd,

I just want to point out that the reason the E-D was never spotlighted on the big screen in GEN was because the design wasn't intended for film. Though he's a completely useless person creatively, Berman managed to realize this and didn't put the E-D under any intense scrutiny.

I am sorry but don't agree with this view. Enterprise D made a great transition to the big screen. After all the filming and programing the best shots of the ship for TV they knew what worked and didn't for big screen. All the screen time the Enterprise had in Generations looked absolutly stunning. You cannot say one model looks better on the sceen then the other. The reason was more like Berman wanted to make a break from the TV series look. What better way then to destroy the symbol of the series the Enterprise D.

"Starship porn. Let's all just keep our hands in sight when the Enterprise appears on screen for the first time."

You need hands!? :wtf:

"(maybe with all those aztec marks burned off by a close solar approach.)"

Oooooooooook. :wtf: I hope they destroy the Enterprise. Right after she's launched. Then at the end of the movie we get the TOS version. Who cares if its all a ripoff of "The Search for Spock"?

"You cannot say one model looks better on the sceen then the other."

Yes I can.

^ Yes, it did make a great transition, especially considering it was the SAME filming model. All they did was repaint her for Generations.

OT, I do think we'll get a "grand enterence" but it might be with Pike in the center chair coming to save the day. Since this is a Spock-centric movie, probably won't see the Enterprise 'till mid-way through the movie.

Do you think they will give her a the same or even greater introduction than TMP did for the Ent-refit?
I hope not. We've already had one movie make a big deal out of introducing the Enterprise, we don't need another (IMO).

30 years ago in a film that many of the intended audience will have never seen.

I suspect it will, given the rather impressive reveal it got in the trailer. But there's a difference between a grand entrance and a long entrance (TMP was both). We won't be spending seven-to-eight minutes admiring the ship as the score swells, as cool as that might be.

The various hero ships in Trek have been dealt with such elegiac pomposity in previous reveals, part of me hopes this one is handled a bit more matter-of-factly.

I agree with the sentiment that "Grand" need not be "long." While I understand the spirit behind the reveal of the Enterprise in TMP, I still think it could have been done more economically time-wise.

I hope so, I think it's important for the characters (and audience) to have a 'bonding moment' when they see the ship up close for the first time.

Considering the reaction to the teaser, I think they could open with a shot of the toilet in the head on the bridge and people would get goosebumps :)

I think the ENT-A has the best intro ever.

McCOY: "We'll get a freighter."

SULU: "I'm hoping for Excelsior."

SCOTTY: "Excelcior? Why in god's name would you want that bucket o' bolts?"

KIRK: "A ship is a ship..."

*Reveal*:
USS ENTERPRISE
NCC - 1701 - A

KIRK: "My friends...we've come home."

True. It's also something they don't need to see and aren't clamoring to see.

^^^ I have to agree. I saw TMP opening night, and had anticipated it for, well, years, and I still found that first reveal a bit long. I'd rather see a good flyby.

Just because they're not "clamoring to see" it doesn't mean they wouldn't enjoy it.

The audience may enjoy seeing many things, but I believe there are better things to show than a scene making a big deal of introducing the Enterprise. I certainly don't remember seeing anything like that in any of the TOS episodes, and I've enjoyed them for years.
