Will Star Trek:Discovery be on iTunes?

Not sure how that would work, since merchants in the US and Canada freely accept each other's credit cards and I'm not aware of the numbering system in one country's cards being different from the other...

I don't have a debit card, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else use one either. They are unsafe and insecure. And you don't get the same protections with a debit card that you do with credit cards.

I just thought of something else. If you sign up for a service like this and give them a billing method that eventually expires, won't they send it to a collections agency and go after you anyway?
Most likely.

Most services like this you're paying for the month going forward so if they try to charge your card and it's declined for whatever reason the service would just turn off. There wouldn't be anything to send to collections.

Unsure why episodes wouldn't be available on iTunes. You'd have to pay for them individually, so CBS would still be making their money - in fact they'd make more. A regular HD episode of Fear the Walking Dead is available on iTunes for $2.99. Since the full season of Discovery will consist of 13 episodes and on the working assumption it'd follow the same pricing model as Fear, that's $39 for all episodes in season one. iTunes also has the "season pass" alternative where you pay in full - generally a couple of bucks less than if you were buying episodes on their own.

I don't know if regular broadcast network shows offer the season pass or if that's just limited to specific cable shows. Perhaps Discovery will be available on iTunes after the season has been made fully available on All Access. Marvel's Netflix-only shows come to iTunes eventually - usually not long after the show's been out on Netflix and the word comes down they're moving ahead with a new season.

It's more money for CBS, so I don't see why not. Though Apple probably gets a percentage, I'm not sure how much.

They're doing this to try to bring people to the All Access service, so they want to make sure it's only place people will be able to see the new episodes as they're released in areas where they have AA. I honestly think the reason the show is even happening is because Trek is really the only big franchise CBS has that would be enough to bring people to their service.
If it was just about making money off of the show by itself they probably would have sold it to Netlfix in the US like they have in most of the rest of the world.

I don't see why it won't be on iTunes, eventually, especially since iTunes already has all the other Treks. But I wonder if iTunes is maybe classed differently than CBS All Access and Crave TV.

For me, when I think of iTunes vs. streaming, it is kind of like thinking of DVD/Blu-Ray vs cable/satellite/OA TV. With iTunes and DVD/Blu-Ray you are actually receiving a copy of that show or movie, whereas with streaming and cable/satellite/OA there is no permanent storage of anything, other than the receiver (in the case of streaming, the RAM on your computer, and with TV, the TV set itself).

But with iTunes, another thing will be region-locks. I know that even right now there are certain shows that are on the US iTunes, but for whatever reason are either not on the Canadian iTunes, or have only been partially released. So I just hope that we don't run into a situation where the Canadian iTunes maybe gets the first 5 episodes, and then the remaining episodes are not posted.

Most certainly at the end of the 13-episode run on CBSAA.
Also just today there is news:
Apple is reportedly planning to launch a new Apple TV that supports 4K content.
The company is testing a new Apple TV capable of streaming ultra-high-definition 4K

4k UHD resolution is the new standard for TV if they will plan on doing syndication for the next 10 years. I expect DSC to be mastered in 4k UHD.

Also HBO's Westworld season 1 will be available on iTunes March 6, 2017 which is just 4 months after the last episode aired on HBO December 4, 2016. That price is $38.99/10 episode season pass. At that price expect Star Trek DSC to be $ 50.68 USD on iTunes. The Blu-ray of season 1 would be a much better value with the special features...

Why don't you just subscribe?

In my case, because I don't like to be told where and how to consume my content. If I choose to pay a la carte on iTunes, that's my choice. If I prefer Amazon, or Hulu, or All Access, that should be up to me. As long as CBS makes their money on the product they're trying to sell, then the rest should be up to me. Using Star Trek as some kind of carrot to buy a service that I don't need, don't want, and wouldn't choose given an option, is a sure fire way to ensure that I don't watch Star Trek.

Well, the scenario presented was that you try to cancel your account with them, they keep billing you anyway, and you have to jump through hoops for months to get it to stop. True scenario, from previous experience.
If you have cancelled your account then they have nothing to send to collections. What you are avoiding through the debit card angle are false charges that the average person has little means to get refunded.

The Good Wife spinoff is on iTunes up in Canada; hopefully DSC follows suit. Though maybe because that airs on a network up here it's been made available...

Because people don't want to pay another $9.99 a month just to watch a Star Trek show or spending $9.99 a month to watch programs they'll never ever watch on top of their already too high budget of paying monthly subscriptions.

Well, it is $5.99. And, you can always put another subscription on hold during the time that Star Trek is airing new episodes.

My bet is that Star Trek Discovery will be released on itunes. I doubt it will be available right after they make the episodes available though. Most likely they will start adding episodes to itunes a two - four weeks after they air on CBS All Access. I know they where releasing their other original series The Good Fight to itunes a few weeks or so after they where made available on itunes.

I think CBS All Access would be stupid not to make Discovery episodes on itunes available starting a few weeks later at 3.50 a pop like they did The Good Fight. It would be smart because they know some people will not want to subscribe to CBS All access. So selling them at 3.50 a pop makes them even more money.

I wonder if Star Trek: Discovery will be available on iTunes. I do not like subscriptions but I do like to buy season passes on iTunes. That is how I watch Rebels and Walking Dead. They are available the day after the episode airs. But shows on Netflix are not available until the next season starts. I hope it will be on iTunes the day after it is available on CBS All Access.
It's more or less said in here already. The show will more than likely be on iTunes at some point, but not while it's airing on All Access. Netflix shows eventually make their way to iTunes, but not until after the season completes.

So many shows are available on iTunes, Amazon etc for purchase that I imagine there is a reason, ie. they turn a profit. Consumers want to consume content on their terms. On the platform we choose, when we choose and being able to rewatch if we choose. We are tired of network TV that doesn't have those options.

So not having STD available on iTunes, Amazon and Blu-Ray is a colossally stupid move IMO. I think they will be available, it's just a matter of how long it takes. It should follow the schedule most other shows go with if it wants to compete.I think some people have bought into the concept of CBSAA and think that only subscribing will allow STD to flourish. So if anyone suggests watching STD by any other means than subscribing to CBSAA they try to shoot that idea down.
