Kudos to whoever wrote this episode, it is one of my favourite of nuTrek.One thing I liked about TOS is that it frequently portrayed our heroes as a middling race and that it was relatively common to come across more advanced species, with only a couple of exceptions, that largely went out the window during the Berman era.
We did get to see how the SNW crew would encounter similar, because I'd count the Boltzman brain from "The Elysian Kingdom" as an advanced life form.
