Will Sam Beckett Return Home? NBC Orders Quantum Leap Reboot Pilot

The original show had a killer who broke out of the waiting room and they had to catch him and bring him back. When Sam leapt into Dr. Ruth, she helped Al with his love life.

And the woman who helped Sam with testimony against the man who raped her.

There was always inconsistency with the leaping thing, but if they are doing away with the waiting room... Then how exactly is Ben "inhabiting" the person he leaps into? We saw in the boxing episode it stated Ben was just in the PHYSICAL BODY of the person there. If that's true, then where is Ben's body? Is he in some kind of stasis in the facility? Is he hooked up to a feeding tube? If not then where does his body go when he is inside the body of another person. Is he no longer corporeal and his body become energy?

If this is the take on the leaping it would explain why nobody knows where Sam Beckett is. There's not a body of Sam Beckett with the person he leaps into to go by.

Although the physical body thing would mean Sam being able to father a child would make no sense since it wouldn't have been his body, his DNA... Which may mean Sammy Jo is retconned out of existence.

They just merge on some level.

No one knows where Sam is because in the final of QL Sam's physical body Leapt, leaving the waiting room empty. His Leaps from that point on are as himself.

He definitely appears as himself when he materializes in front of Beth to tell her Al is still alive and will be coming home. He's still wearing what he wore in the bar run by Bruce McGill.

I think that happened though because it was the only way to reach Beth. Then again it might have been Sam wanting to still leap and help people but also reclaim part of himself again. Of course from what I understand if the show went forward he would have been leaping in the future. I wonder if this show will use that idea.

Thought that had been at the back of my mind and came forth again when Magic was telling Ian about his experience of being lept in to by Sam.

Why would the DoD have funded Quantum Leap? Maybe it was the only govt department that would pony up the money but I don't think Sam would have wanted it used for military purposes.

I wonder if Al convinced Sam to bring Quantum Leap to the Navy and the DoD since they worked together on the Starbright Project beforehand.

Why would you think that? Sam was not a pacifist. He may not have served in the military (that we know of) but he has nothing against the armed forces.

I mean, how could he? His brother, best friend, and father-in-law were all veterans...

suggest you watch the original series again and get a better handle on just what sort of man Sam Beckett was.

Sam was no gung-ho military advocate. I may not remember certain aspects of the original series but he wasn't a chest thumping military cheerleader. He respected the military but didn't go overboard with his support.

I think humanitarian would be a apt term and why God or time or whatever used him to put right what went wrong.

Sam turned to the government no doubt because where else are you going to get the money to do something like that? No doubt promised them some military benefits which is why in that season 1 episode they were thinking about shutting it down. Sam leaped and they were not seeing any benefits. Al was no doubt suppose to be the middleman between Sam's goals and the government. Sam might not trust the military in general but he did trust Al.

Just the hologram technology would be incredible for intelligence gatherings.

But Al used it to spy in the ladies dressing-rooms.

What use is intelligence that's years or decades old? Either it would've already been learned by other means, or it would no longer be relevant except to historians.

In the first show Al was able to become a hologram in the present day I believe. He locked into the killer who had escaped the waiting room. He then left to go after him in the flesh and blood. Te point is the holographic tech isn't limited to only being used in the past.

Quantum leap has not yet stabilized in the ratings - each episode is watched by fewer than the previous. Season 2 will hinge on budget and how its doing on Peacock.
