Will Sam Beckett Return Home? NBC Orders Quantum Leap Reboot Pilot

Just in season one. After that they almost always appeared after the title. (I think the lone holdout may have been the series finale.)
Yeah just checked - season 1, the date was on the title card, later was the frame afterwards.

  • I'm certainly giving it a couple of episodes - already looking forward to the astronaut leap/mission
  • I'm open minded on the casting and characters. Not convinced the format needs that many core/main ones though.
  • Hoping the "modern day project part" isn't overdone (exposition dumps) and overused with story-lines (taking away time from the "leaps")

I agree - while i'm extremely hesitant about reboots ( 80% of them are crap) i will give this a shot. It remains to be seen if this can even approach the charm of the original show and Scott Bakula.

Hmm... I'm not impressed by the actress playing the hologram role. Dean Stockwell is a hard act to follow there. And there wasn't nearly enough of Ernie Hudson, who's the main draw for me so far.

It could be interesting to see the perspective of an Asian-American experiencing how he's treated differently when he's perceived as white. Sort of an inversion of the original series's dynamic of a white man often getting placed in the role of a person of color or other minority.

I think some of it to relieve the pressure on the lead. Was mentioned a few pages back that the filming the series took it's toll on Scott Backula's marriage.

Was going say surely if Ben had followed up on Sam's work he'd know what was happening then remember - swiss cheese memory (which did give us the scene in the original when Sam remembers his brother was killed in Vietnam to which Al responds about hoping it was the one thing he wouldn't remember).

Was mentioned earlier that Canada was getting it on citytv but the epg from my tv says they've got monday night football then the 911 but perhaps they're planning on putting in the 7 - 8 pm slot which would avoid delays and pre-emption by the football.

It's interesting how projects like this excite me at first and then the more I see of the final product the less excited I get.

But fingers crossed, I plan on giving this as fair of a shake as I can manage.

You are correct.
Scott Bakula stated that multiple times - it's also why in later series he had basically a "home for family dinner" clause in his contracts.

I just feel like with most series today doing a smaller number of episodes compared to previously - there would be a middle-way of sorts - even if obviously still taxing on the leads.

Curious to see how much they lean on the original show and when/if they encounter Sam Beckett ( hope not to soon as they need to stand on their own feet before connecting to the original show).

It's also important to remember shows like this tend to film sixteen hours a day, six days a week. Larger casts help guarantee that some of the actors have breaks throughout.

I mean what was the last American show to have a cast of just two? I'm thinking Supernatural, and even that added to its main cast as the series went on.

Trailer looked pretty good. So do we know if Ernie Hudson's character is aware of his encounter with Sam?
Which episode was his character in? I was thinking about watching it before this premieres, just in case what happened comes up in the new show at some point.

Yeah like I said before. Newer reboots/ revivals can’t stand on just two leads like past series

macgyver
Knight rider

The reboots create a team at the base.

It’s too taxing on one solo actor to carry 22 episodes nowadays

The quantum leap reboot will probably go back and forth between Ben and the team in 2022 like they were in the same timezone/ very close by

That was one reason I couldn't get into the MacGyver reboot. The reason for Mac's inventiveness in the original series was that he was one guy on his own having to improvise solutions. If he has a whole support team and a Guy in the Chair and the resources of a big government agency at his beck and call, his jury-rigged gadgets are reduced to a mere affectation. (Also, the original MacGyver would never have tolerated having a sniper on his support team.)

It does look very much like a "network TV show" but hey we need some of those too. I was trying to imagine if the old QL had a previous relationship subplot with Sam and Al. :) Still looks like it has potential to be light fun.

I don't know how many episodes were ordered, if it's 13 or so it might be an easier load. I watch very little traditional network TV these days so I don't know if they still do the 22+ thing or not.
