Will Sam Beckett Return Home? NBC Orders Quantum Leap Reboot Pilot

yep and remarkably they only ever broke it once (with a bit of hand waving to explain it).
Googling...

Yep, in "Leap Between The States" because he, uh, leaped in the body of his ancestor who was his genetic "twin".

Ok....

I believe it was within his own lifetime.

And here's Al to explain it!

I always liked this conceit and constraint to the show. It kept the stories within recent history for the audience, and avoided a repeat of TIME TUNNEL.

Though the ball theory also become a self-fulfilling prophecy during one of Sam's leaps :)

I wonder if the new series will delve in the mythology of the old show (you know, God, Devil, Evil Leapers and so on). After Supernatural, there are still tv shows which treat religious subjects?

Bit of an aside, but this reminded me of seeing an article last year (or maybe earlier this year?) that horror movies are probably religion's last presence in mainstream culture and media.

You know what? I really, really doubt that in this series they will name God, Devil or other entities of the Judeo-Christian traditions...

The Devil is a Christian concept, not Judeo-Christian. In Jewish thought, the word "Satan" (literally "adversary") is understood to mean the innate human capacity for evil, a metaphorical adversary that we must battle to be good, rather than an actual sentient being. https://www.learnreligions.com/jewish-view-of-satan-2076775

As in 19th century West frontier? There wasn't like a hard rule how far back in time one can travel?

I believe it was within his own lifetime.
He could always be an actor in a Western movie.

There is Evil, which focuses on a team investigating possessions, miracles and things like that for the Catholic Church.

There was a time when it seemed to me that there was always at least one TV show with an angel. I think today would be considered ... inappropriate? Edit: I'm not talking about streaming or cable tv shows.

Hardly. The just-ended Lucifer on FOX and Netflix was full of angel characters, including the titular fallen angel -- an alternate version of whom is now being played by Gwendoline Christie on Netflix's The Sandman. Another current Neil Gaiman series, Good Omens, revolves around the friendship between an angel and a demon. Supernatural ended just 2 years ago and featured the angel Castiel as a regular, among other angel characters, I'm sure; and it's got a prequel series premiering in October. The Good Place was about the afterlife and thus presumably had angels (I haven't seen it yet, but it's on Wikipedia's list of TV shows with angels).

Well, The Good Place, Lucifer, and Supernatural were network shows, so the point stands. I don't see any reason why shows with angels in them would suddenly become off-limits today when they were fine just a year or two ago.

People today tend to get offended a hell of a lot more easily so I can see networks getting complaint letters and such. That's one reason. People just seem to have thinner skins today.

The interesting thing about that is that it's explained that all the days of ones 'lifetime' touch either so one can leap to any point in the past or future.

Don't think they ever lept into the 'future' though did they?
