Will new movie win any awards??

Obviously it will win science awards like crazy, but any chance it could get Oscars and Emmys for the actors and maybe best movie?

No. No chance. Even the technical awards aren't a lock with all the other movies involving CGI this year.

While I loved it, it's not going to win any Oscars for acting or writing. It does, however, stand a decent chance of being nominated in the sound categories. The sound in this film was really superlative.

I think it has a real chance of some production nods but now that I've thought about it, I can see how it wouldn't get best movie and no best actor/actress awards. TNG was nominated for best series in its final season and that was not the best season. Just goes to show how sci-fi is always snubbed.

you never know. someone once cited ET re the Oscars. but ET was up against Gandhi that year. there's no way that Gandhi wouldn't have swept that award, which it did. so it was just unfortunate timing. I loved ET, btw. and, of course, I loved Gandhi.

It has a good shot in the visual F/X and sound categories.
- The great visuals are mentioned in pretty much every review
- The sound was amazing, even in my local theater which is not particularly high-tech.

But the competition will be tough, very tough.

I really, really hope that thought process didn't take more than 0.064 of a second. Watch some Oscar winning movies back to back with Star Trek and then you will see why this movie will neither get nor deserve the award. Special effects and sound design maybe, but it is not going to get anything in the big categories.

Science fiction awards? Don't be so sure, District 9 may be some pretty stiff competition in that regard as a true science fiction film.

Oh, you know that nitpicky National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. They'll find some reason not to nominate a motion picture for their TV award.

It'll get nominated for an Oscar in visual effects, but it almost certainly won't win.

Not with Transformers, Terminator, Up and Harry Potter all being released this year.
