Will Majel Barrett-Rodddenberry do the computer voice?

I'd imagine somewhere up the middle... TNG-style would be too conversational and advanced in terms of continuity with all that came after, but TOS-style would be campy... computers now speak more naturally than that.

I honestly hope they just leave it out.

I got to thinking though, remember that episode where the computer got an upgrade in TOS from a planet of all women? It was speaking very well in a female voice, very fluent. So it is not out of the realm of possibility that the computers in TOS had the capability to sound more intelligent, it may just be that the mechanical voice was the "standard" default voice offered and most just used it to keep things uniform throughout the fleet.

Maybe the computers in this movie should be a bit less mechanical, but not as fluent as TNG, somewhere in the middle.

They could totally have Majel do some talking computer in there somewhere and it would be a cool touch that all us fans would instantly recognize and appreciate it and the audience in general won't know a thing about it. Sounds like a pretty seamless idea to me.

God, I hope they don't. Please, pick someone else. Yeah. A male voice, maybe. Anything. Just as long as it ain't her.

I would hope the more mechanical fashion of TOS, that would make sense.
maybe how the computer sounded was a matter of preference..

Surprised to find myself in partial agreement with you on this, though perhaps for different reasons. Majel Barret-Roddenberry is too old-sounding at this point to do the computer voice any more. However, I don't think a male voice is particularly realistic. Studies have shown that female voices cut through the chaos and general walla better than do male voices, so it's only logical to use a woman's voice. I think, as I said upthread, that they should just forgo the talking computer all together.

I think she could do it, I don't really notice much difference between the voice sound in 1966 and the one in voyager. The only way it would annoy me is if it was the old disjointed computer voice

"work...ing"

Two hours of that would bug any audience.

Anne Robinson should be computer voice.. especially the one used for the self destruct..

"Captain, you are the weakest link, goodbye" KBOOM!

:p
