Will Lucas do final Star Wars movies because of Trek popularity?

I was reading this book about the making of "Star Wars" and it talked about how Lucas wanted to do the prequels in part because he felt "Star Wars" was becoming irrelevant in the 90's. Also I don't think Lucas liked how "Star Trek" was more popular than "Sta Wars" and for awhile there I think it was back in the 90's.

If Trek overtakes "Star Wars" am I the only one who thinks that Lucas would basically make the final chapters of the Star Wars saga to in essence ,retake the crown.

A bruised ego might be the only thing to motivate him. I doubt money or millions of begging fans would.

In any event, I doubt Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher would reprise their roles, and I don't have immense interest in seeing what Lucas could do creatively after the last trilogy. I'm not going to hold my breath.

I doubt he'd bother.

Do you think he would be happy though with "Star Wars" playing second fiddle to the "Star Trek" franchise? I doubt he would direct again(ThankGOD!) but I could see him doing the movies. "Star Wars" has in essence become his life's work. I see him waiting another 10 years though. This would in essence allow to him to try and capture young fans who didn't even grow up on the prequels. How old is the guy? His age is the one thing were I could see him sort of doing them earlier than he would normally want to do them.

No.
Currently, there are no firm plans to produce such films. Lucasfilm's stance is that the six Star Wars films comprise the entire story Lucas intended to tell, despite mentions to the contrary in the press and official publications over time.

The thing Lucas is focused on is The Untitled Star Wars live-action TV series a science fiction television series currently set to debut in 2010.
The series will be set between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Originally, 100 one hour-long episodes were proposed

Lucas will write and produce the first season, and then "hand it off from there", while remaining executive producer.

a description given by Lucas as "one show that will split into four shows, focusing on different characters.

Writing a season of even 12 episode series running 43 minutes each is like 8 2-hour feature films.
If Lucasfilm were to actually do a Trek-style full season of 22 episodes that would be 15 hours of live-action 'Star Wars'.

Even with 12 episodes the quality will suffer. They are not feature films. The music will suffer.

Lucas will do the first season over 12-18 months sort of like a season of Soprano's was produced and then take a break.

Now that JJ has turned Star Trek into Star Wars, maybe Lucas will change Star Wars into Star Trek. :rommie:

I'd be all for it, so long as he didn't write the Screenplay or Direct.

Write the larger story, then let someone else handle getting it right and filmed.

I would watch them if they were made, but I would consider them part of an alternate reality. Trek has shown that recasting icons can be done, so good movies could still be made. Still, I'd much rather see a Dark Times TV show.

The music will suffer.

One question: Huh?

I was speaking about the live-action television series starting in 2010.
The recent videogames and animated SW products don't come close to John Williams quality.

I just checked imdb.com

John Williams is apparently doing the composing for the TV series!:)

I love it! And the PS works wonders.

I woke up the other day wondering if 7,8 and 9 were really going into production. Then I came to my senses and realized no.

We now live in a world where Star Trek is at the movies and Star Wars is on TV. Go figure.

I don't see how he's playing second fiddle to the Star Trek movie since the LOTR movies surpassed the Star Wars and hasn't responded to that either.

The show will use the theme song, it's a given, therefore Williams is going to get a composing credit no matter what. Doesn't mean he's composing the music for the entire series. Several different people composed the music for the Clone Wars series, for example, none of them being Williams.

I'm hoping that Lucas sees Star Trek, realizes that it's possible for a massive sci-fi franchise to make a prequel that doesn't suck, and feel shame until he dies.

But instead he'll not even have the thought enter his head, and live happily at his ridiculously awesome Skywalker Ranch, swimming in his vault Scrooge McDuck style.

Life just ain't fair.
