Leno's show needs to be "retooled" and "re-thought" to make it more interesting and funny. Some of the commercials and promos for it were pretty funny. Then it ended up just being a generic, paint-by-the-numbers night-time talk show.

As others have mentioned before, the only real change I see coming is the death of Hulu; I don't see Comcast agreeing to keep it around when it directly competes with their own Fancast.

Hulu won't die because of this, since it's owned in equal shares by NBC/Universal, ABC, and Fox. However, NBC/Universal may sell their stake. I don't think it would make a lot of sense for Comcast to pull NBC's content out without selling the stake, though.

But since so much has been invested in the Hulu "brand," it might make more sense to keep both around and let them play to their strengths. Fancast seems to have a lot more functionality.

Leno is alright, but he's no Jon Stewart.

Conan is flailing and Letterman is on his way out. Perhaps this is the end of the late night talk shows.

Ummm... The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Best Late Night show around.

QFT.

Nobody else on the air right now can hold a candle to this guy. Leno's a little better than Letterman (totally unfunny...maybe would've done better as a hard-news reporter than a comedian), but both of them look like amateurs compared to Ferguson.
Yep. Ferguson is so much better its ridiculous.

Will Comcast Cancel NBC

I was going to start a new thread for this but only if I get more proof though the idea is a interesting one to consider...

BNET writer Diane Mermigas warns that NBC Universal suitor Comcast, the largest cable operator in the United States, is not interested in keeping NBC itself going.

Falling revenues and an unsure broadcast market seems to have Comcast considering putting all of its eggs into the basket of cable, moving shows that survive the network axing to cable properties such as USA Network or Syfy.

However whatever direction Comcast goes won't be known for a while since it's expected to be a year before the cable giant's acquisition of NBC Universal from General Electric is complete, and any action on the network likely couldn't happen until 2014 at the earliest because of contractual obligations.

I do think NBC can be turned around before 2014 though it should scale back and do what FOX does and concentrate on 8-10pm for primetime...7-11 for sundays with NFL and 7-10 without NFL. However the cracks get wider then NBC probably will have no choice to fold and the cable outlets would only get stronger IMO with USA network one of the top rated and SYFY getting bigger per year.

yes why would a cable operator, want non cable network like NBC, other than putting NBC on cable of course.

but you dont need to get cable to get NBC, Comcast dont get subscribers from NBC, unless they made NBC exclusive to cable (all cable companys, or just itself)

one thing I wonder about is DirectTV has some deals with NBC on shows like Friday Night Lights, I wonder what Comcast will think about that.

Maybe but I don't know if they'd be so bold as to risk total viewership numbers for exclusivity. They have a majority stake in the G4TV cable channel but that's carried by AT&T and DirectTV.

I don't see Leno being cancelled, but I do think we'll see him gradually go down to two or three nights a week and perhaps down to one night a week by the end of his contract...

If canceling Leno would in any way increase the chances of getting Rex Is Not Your Lawyer onto the airwaves, then have it, Comcast!

Joy

This.

I was so disappointed in Leno's new show. It just wasn't new. NBC should never have kicked him off late night.

Edited because of atrocious spelling. Nate instead of night? Where did that come from?

I am certianly dont think going exclusive to Comcast is the way to go, but it could go exclusive to cable.

I discovered Late Night With Jimmy Fallon over the Thanksgiving holiday, and loved it. It's very different from other late night talk shows; watching Fallon's show feels more like hanging out with a group of classy but relaxed friends than it does talk show.

Should DVR ever be considered in ratings then it may be a problem. I read a few days ago that Leno has a lot of DVR viewers.

you dont get the point. NBC was desperate, and along came the opportunity to get a 60 minute comedic commercial in primetime every night. they KNEW it wasnt going to be that entertaining in a primetime lineup, but its not about ENTERTAINMENT, its about MONEY. they also needed an excuse to kill off some high-priced spinoffs (that they had way to many of).

i actually like Leno, but his show just doesnt belong in that slot. dont worry, as soon as a cheap to produce drama comes along with the numbers to fill his time slot, it WILL.

Craig is like your drunken uncle, but he doesn't drink. He feels like a part of your family. Everyone on the show feels very comfortable with him when Jimmy is just really HI!!!! HOW IS YOUR NEW MOVIE!!! to everything. Craig is fun and only gets exciting when he gets the people to tell a great story.

Kristen Bell was on an episode this week just to read the emails, she is awesome.

I've never seen Leno so I don't know but is there a lot of built in ad placement or owt like that, then DVR could count more than the norm.

I'm having a hard time forgiving Fallon for laughing through sketches on SNL for all those years.

Some things never change.
