Will Capt. Picard retire? (Spoilers re: Destiny and TNG Relaunch)

Simple answer: Riker hasn't, so why should Picard? What makes Picard different?

Picard is a lot older then Riker to be fair

I've seen people older than Picard who are still in Starfleet. Admiral McCoy, anybody? Honestly, what does age have to do with it? AFAIK there's no mandatory retirement age in Starfleet.

The animated episode "The Counter Clock Incident" was all about Commodore April's retirement at 75. The episode ended with him (and his wife) being allowed to stay on, but I don't recall if the retirement age was abolished fleet-wide.

Admiral Jameson in "Too Short a Season" seemed pretty old, although I'm not sure if an age was actually mentioned. If STXI's academy instructor Admiral Archer is the same guy from Enterprise, he'd be about 150 in 2258 (although, knowing Archer, time travel is very much a possibility in getting him to STXI's timeframe)

^ That still doesn't matter. The issue is age, not other long lived species. If Picard decided to ever retire from Starfleet or accept a promotion or whatever it would be because he has lost the desire and passion to be a starship captain. We know the demand the position has. Picard has a family now, and from his laments about that aspect of his life we know how important that is. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a change of heart from in in future books regarding this.

So you're saying then that a Human and a Vulcan (for example) should be treated the same when it comes to age and if there is a forced retirement age, even though a Vulcan can live a lot longer than a Human it should be the same as both of them.

That statement got me all confused too.

Well it wouldn't be the first time Picard had a change of heart...

I might be in the minority here, I don't know, but it seems to me that with Riker/Troi/Data gone it's somewhat incumbent upon Pocket to keep Picard captain...

unlike DS9/VOY/ENT - TNG is more of a public domain thing...there's a reason it got movies and none of the others did...if someone picked up Unworthy having a casual knowledge of Star Trek, they probably wouldn't care that Janeway wasn't in it...on the other hand they picked up a TNG novel and saw "Captain A. Placeholder-Name" they'd be like "where's Picard?!" TNG and Picard have more in the way of brand recognition!
