Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoilers?)

Re: Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoile

Just because part of the movie references the 24th century doesn't mean there will be a scene set in the 24th century. For all we know, elder Spock might just stroll up to young Spock and say "I am Spock. There is a crisis and I require your assistance."

"Fascinating", replied young Spock.

Like I said: vague at best will be the 24th Century bits amounting to a blurb on screen indicating this and then moving on with the story from there.

Get with it. You're wrong.

Your argument is quite laughable i have to say. I was trying to break it down to something you'd understand but ohh wait im the dumb one remember... :rommie:

So you're honestly telling me that when you talk about Kirk spock etc. you believe that they're from TNG and not TOS? To me (and im sure others) a persons ERA is determained by the age/place/time that they're most remembered/remember since most people would remember Kirk, Spock etc. from TOS, they're TOS era, im sorry if you don't agree with my opinion but the fact you call me Dumb proves that you are infact the dumb one, we were having a little debate and you turn out like a spoilt kid...grow up man! :bolian:

Okay, guys...let's dispense with the personal attacks.

Thanks alot.

I think Chakotay and Voyager will give old Spock a ride. Maybe Kira on Defiant? Naomi Wildman on a runabout?? That kid that Riker was being a dick to in that Poker episode where the Bajoran girl got killed, yea, that guy on a little shuttle.....what about that?

Assuming that there is a 24th century framing scene, there's no reason why they couldn't have a familar face accompanying Spock to the GOF or wherever (if that rumour is true).

Okay, Spock could be travelling there on his own, but equally, he could be escorted by Starfleet (given his Ambassador status, that seems plausible). They could have some anonymous actor play an officer we've never seen before. But it might be a nice nod to the fans to have a familar face and it doesn't have to be a distraction to those not familiar with TNG/DS9/VOY assuming that they don't start throwing in in-jokes and obscure references. The part could serve the plot as well as being a continuity nod.

Personally, I'd rather not see any TNG-era characters, particularly in the kind of setting you mention here. I really don't like it when SF series keep re-using established characters; it just contributes to the general sense that the galaxy has, like, 30 people in it. There's no reason that Spock has to run into people we've seen before, just as a "wink" to fans -- and, while I enjoy winks now and again, I'd much rather focus on the story.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that stories (particularly this one, if the rumors are true) tend to rely to some extent on coincidences. I'm generally fine forgiving coincidences if they help move the story along (unless they verge on dei ex machinis) but gratuitous ones (like "oh! Spock's catching a ride with Dr. Bashir!") are just annoying.

Just a matter of personal preference -- your mileage may vary, of course.

I doubt it.

From all I've heard(which, admittedly, isn't much)the beginning of the movie is set post-NEMESIS in the Picard era but 24th century Spock and the Romulans with brow ridges are the only TNG-era characters in the movie.

but why should anyone care, if the character does not serve the plot? And I hope it doesn't get bogged down in TNG trivia.

Tasha's Romulan daughter will be appearing.

bite your tongue!

First I've heard. Sela's kid? How are they going to work that? I don't remember lines from TNG where Sela admitted to having a child of her own.

Re: Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoile

Read between the lines. It's there as clear as day.

Re: Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoile

Didn't Orci say the movie contained references to all Trek series, including DS9, VOY, and TNG?

Re: Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoile

^ So we'll see Admiral Janeway telling Captain Kira to take the Defiant to bring Spock to the Gateway. But yes Mr. Orci said something like that though I can't remember the exact words he used.

I agree with the second part (re trivia) but as for the first part - well, consider it an Easter egg. If (note - 'if') there is to be a part for a starfleet officer to accompany Spock, then it may as well be someone who some in the audience can go 'oh look!' to. Like the Reg Barclay or EMH cameos in FC or the Janeway one in NEM. Did they advance the plots? Not really. Did they hurt them? Not at all (IMHO). Did everyone like them? No, but some did.

Though I do accept that the 'too small a universe' argument has merit. It's really just a matter of personal taste.

Ya it would be convenient to have a character we have seen before taking Spock to the Guardian but hey alot of convenient things that might not happen in real life happen in movies!

Re: Will any TNG era Characters appear in the movie? (spoile

Sela DID survive the end of "Unification" for all we knew anyways. She hasn't been reused in TREK since 1991, but it stands to reason an opportunistic officer like her would be useful in the ensuing Neral and Shinzon regimes and continue to hold power and rank.
