You're worried about the U.S. overrunning your country for oil and natural gas. What do you think happens if the Israelis and Iranians begin exchanging nukes? The possibility exists that the entire region would become unavailable for oil production depending on the scale of the conflict. That means nations that depend on Middle East oil will have to find new sources.
I think your nation is safer in the long run if the threat of full blown nuclear war in the Middle East doesn't exist...

They're fighting over a piece of land on a shared border and while there has been religious dust-ups, the amount of conflict would've been minimal if the borders had been drawn up to account for the religious divide to begin with.
The Iranians on the other hand have an irrational hate for the Israelis. Allowing them to develop nuclear weapons would be no different than giving a psychopath a gun. It's not 'if' he will use it, it's 'when'?
But, by all means continue to live in Ron Paul's fantasy land.
Most countries are fairly secular and really don't want to die. Iran and a few others are religious nuts and believe they get rewarded for killing themselves and others in the afterlife. That's the major difference. If there is a nuclear war in the near future, it will be due to religion.

Not just that, but that their regime's hastening of some apocalyptic confrontation will speed the return of the hallowed Twelfth Imam, who is supposed to return to earth by crawling out of some well... or some such religious malarkey that only makes sense when you're blasted on half a bottle of Jack Daniel's and have smoked a joint the size of a Twinkie. Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in a speech before the Consultative Assembly(i.e. their unicameral Parliament) even boasted that he hoped he would be the Iranian President whose actions on the international and nuclear energy fronts would hasten the glorious return of the Twelfth Imam and usher in some blinkered Golden Age of Islam.
We're not dealing with the old Soviet leadership hunkered down inside the Kremlin and worried about their own hides and long-term survival here. Some of the people in the Iranian leadership are just plain fucking suicidal and nuts. But hey...if it makes you sleep better to think they're just rational pranksters pulling everyone's legs be my guest.
