Will 2012 be an incredibly cynical election?

Stop playing dumb, it is unbecoming of a moderator.
He's not. For someone who isn't even American, you sure take a mighty strong interest in our politics (on the wrong side, no less).

Who are you to decide which one is the wrong side?
auntiehill:
You know, technically, an election can't be cynical. It's an event, not a person, and therefore can't have the characteristics of a cynic.
I thinke everybody understood what i meant.
And.....why DO you care about American elections at all? Are you just trolling to see if you can wind people up? It's really tiresome.

Why do people watch the superbowl?
The average voter has had plenty of time to be disgusted. Try not to talk with authority about a group of voters and an election cycle you know absolutely nothing about.
I know more about US politics then your avergae voter.
By the by, American politics doesn't have a monopoly on scumbag politicians.

i agree.

I think Obama and Obamny will play it nice, their coffers will not, so every election goes.

Also, lots of non Americans pay attention to our elections; we offer a lot of aide around the world.

I'm an American. I don't want Romney for President, nor do I want four more years of Obama.

I'll probably end up voting for Romney, though it's unlikely he'll win, because Obama is going to attack Romney's religion.

It just might be possible this is an election where it goes Romney 269, Obama 269... then the house of representatives will have to decide who is President.

You're worried about Obama attacking Romney's religious beliefs? Did you see the 2008 election? Obama was called a secret Muslim, criticized for attending a Black liberation theology Christian church, accused of not attending church at all, and alleged to be a communist/atheist... all at the same time. If there was any accusation that could paint him as an outsider or other of some sort, it was thrown at him.

Romney's taken more heat on his Mormonism from Christians in his own party than he ever has from the Left (and especially not from Obama - who has never criticized him on it). That criticism from his own ranks is going to settle down a bit now that he's going to be the last man standing, but there's still a lot of anti-Mormon distrust there from his own side that's one of the many reasons some conservatives view him as their least desirable nominee (but they'll bite their tongue and still vote for him over the Black secret Muslim Christian extremist communist).

How much do you know about Romanian politics? Is there a 2012 election in Romania? If so, are the politicians scum? Are Romanian voters more likely to turn out if a candidate is black?

I doubt that, though it would be interesting. Obama will probably win, though I doubt it will be a landslide.

The short answer is, yeah. Any election involving an incumbant is. Because you either like Obama or you don't. Therefore the only way for Obama to get additional votes from people who don't like him is to portray Romney as an even worse alternative. This is exactly what happend in '04 against Kerry with the whole Swift Boat thing.

Add to that dynamic that Obama's '08 campaign so raised expectations that any reality would have been a disappointment (to some).

The 'pubs will run their usual playbook, Romney's already pushing the gun button. God and gays will follow soon. As for the expectations of the other side, short of nominating the "Grey Poupon" guy, I can't imagine any candidate playing into the Dem playbook better than Romney.

I expect Obama to pull off a narrow win based on positive economic trend lines at the time of the election, but it could just as easily go the other way.

Transylvania is in Romania, what if the candidate is a vampire? Or a black vampire? Would more people turn out if he was a mulatto vampire communist playing the no-fang card against his opponents? What if he bit Nixon at one point in his life, would people vote for him?

Knock it off. You're not in TNZ.

In my opinion.
Unless by some miracle Ron Paul is the nominee this is going to be dull with low voter turnout. Lets not forget with CU rules gone negative ads will be dropped a day before the election. The american people once again like during Nixons time will be able to see what scumbags their politicians reqally are, this time on both sides.

Ron Paul?
