Wilfred-new FX series

Geez, of all the great Aussie shows - Good News Week, The Games, Round the Twist, Rake, etc - I can't believe that it is Kath and Kim and Wilfred that get picked up elsewhere.

And from what I understand, Elijah Wood is supposed to be a part of the new Tolkien movies Peter Jackson is makin'...
.. Take a look at Jon Hamm's imdb page. He's found plenty of time to pursue other projects while Mad Men has been on the air.

Cameos in The A-Team & Sucker Punch, voice work for a Shrek movie, other tv spots & a supportin' role in The Town.

Yes, and what do you know about Elijah Wood's plans for the future that make you think Wilfred, which he has committed to, will take back burner to anything else?

Not much, to be honest, just seems to me he'd go for more movies over a tv series, where Jon Hamm wis a star thanks to Mad Men, so that's where his priority would be.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that Frodo is going to play a significant part in The Hobbit. Take a look at Jon Hamm's imdb page. He's found plenty of time to pursue other projects while Mad Men has been on the air. I'm sure Wood would be able to quite a bit of other work, even with the grueling work schedule that a show producing 13 twenty-two minute episodes a year must require from him.

And it looks like the ratings were pretty good.

FX’s critically acclaimed comedy series Wilfred and Louie delivered stellar ratings performances Thursday night (6/23) as Wilfred (10:00 PM) posted the highest ratings ever for a comedy series premiere on the network and the season two premiere episode of Louie (10:34 PM) earned significant gains over its season one debut.

For its first-run airing, Wilfred delivered 2.55 million total viewers, 1.6 million Adults 18-49 and 834,000 Adults 18-34. Wilfred ranks as the number one FX comedy series premiere in Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Women 18-49 and Women 18-34. The men/women audience composition for Wilfred was almost dead even, 51%-49%. Wilfred’s multi-telecast audience on Thursday night delivered 3.8 million Total Viewers and 2.4 million Adults 18-49.

It will be interesting to see how it backs up.

I never once watched the Australian version, but I watched this out of interest, and surprisingly I thought it was fairly good. It had me laughing several times. I really don't know what direction it will take from here, but I'm probably going to keep watching.

The pilot had them arguin' about particles of shit in Elijah Wood's underwear & them both takin' dumps in a pair of boots, with Wilfred describin' Elijah Wood's shit. And it was supposed to be funny.

Ya think the rest of the series will have less shit-related dialogue?

I could have lived without the boots scene, but the original discussion was perfectly acceptable considering the show is focused on a dog in the "real world" who just happens to be able to talk. Feces is a major topic for dogs. Why wouldn't the topic come up?

Fascinating that people who claimed to have liked Pushing Daisies thinks this show looks like shit. Absolutely fascinating. It's the same damn type of show as that, Wonderfalls, and Dead Like Me. Maybe a bit more deep, in fact.

You shouldn't assume you know what people liked in Pushing Daisies, which was never lowbrow and crass.

Yeah, I can hope that was the highpoint of it. The talk about smells wasn't that bad. I just didn't care for the boots moment. It's possible for the show to be funny based on the premise without going "to the toilet" every week.

And you shouldn't assume you know anything about a show you've never seen.

(Incidentally, Pushing Daisies and his other shows went down a similar path several times. Hell, just look at what killed George in Dead Like Me.)

Chasting a show you've never seen for one single scene is about as ignorant as you can get. Especially while throwing your nose up in the air and parading around like your shit doesn't stink.

Looks like Wilfred is going to the vet in the next episode. Wonder how many bong hits he'll need to calm down before that one.

Looooooooooved it.

Oddly I survived 4 minutes of the original a couple yarns back.

Retried the Aussie version this morning.

"Better"

Well, it's quite a bit different from the original. The immediate thing is that its shot really brightly, almost surreal daydream bright, compared to the more muted SBS filming. Also, which was not much of a surprise, is that they cut out most of the swearing. Wilfred seemed to drop an Emily around half a dozen times an episodes in the original.

Wilfred is not as agro as he was in the original, but that could be in part due to the different methods they've used to get Wood in his life compared to Zwar. It will be interesting to see how they develop Ryan and Wilfred's relationship. I have to say I was worried that Wilfred had been turned into a helpful animal/spiritual guide for Ryan with pearls of wisdom to help him in life, but the final scene with the wallet had me breathing a sigh of relief.

I'll tune in again next Tuesday.

I just watched the second episode. I wasn't as laugh out loud funny as the pilot but it was still pretty funny. I will keep watching.
