wildfires in Cental and East Texas

wish you woulda corrected me earlier, that way I wouldnt feel quite so dumb.

Here's the latest situation report.

Current Active Wildfires in Texas

Map of fire locations

Looks like we have at least three of our engines from NM State Forestry there as of this morning, along with some assorted other staff members. Resources are coming to Texas from all directions..

By the way, if you see a FB or email blurb that is pleading for any and all firefighters to come to Texas, blah blah blah and listing a phone number to call, it is a hoax... Any resources brought in have to come through official channels.. I don't know how many times I've been copied this notice in my email and have had NM media calling me about it..

Stay safe over there, y'all...

It's also frustrating to be outside of Texas and seeing people you care about lose everything.

Twitter has really come in handy this week. Last night I dreamed I was typing #centraltxfires on my Droid.

My heart goes out to the people affected by this. At first you're happy that people aren't dying, then you realize they've still lost everything. Devastating.

oh dear, there's an Aggie in the house, God Help Me, I cant get away from em! lol

in all seriousness tho, I understand the feeling of helplessness, its how Ive felt every day for the past week. we had a person come in the store, if i havnt said it already i work at a Feed Mill/Store, who lost their house to the advancing fire, and then just a few minutes later, while he was still in the store, his neighbor came in and that the tanker choppers had saved his house. It was a heartbreaking contrast......

anyway, like I said, I work at a Feed Mill/Store, and the area im in is a very Ag heavy area. anyway so many people, especially from the early stages of this fire, have had cattle and Horses get burnt up. Now people have resorted to just letting them go, and worrying about the rest later, especially cattle, as alot of people might have 200 head of cattle and can only moved about 20 at a time.

Pile that on top of this years drought, which killed the local corn and hay crop, and the reports that this drought could last well into Spring...... The outlook in our area over the next 10-12 Months is bleak to say the least

Just click the links I posted yesterday and you'll get the updated information for today.. While things have slowed down a bit, there's still a lot of extreme fire behavior out there.

I read that a Type I incident management team has taken over one of the bigger fires and that's good news. A Type I IMT brings with it a LOT of resources. Wish I was one of them, but c'est la vie..

Looks like one of the engines the US Forest Service sent from New Mexico got burned over at a fire out there, when they got stuck in some deep sand. Luckily, all the crew survived with no injuries.. Scary stuff though.. One of my engines had some mechanical problems, so they're down a couple of days awaiting repair.
