Wi-Fi problem...

I guess I'm out of my depth, here, on something that is supposed to be so simple.

Last summer I got myself a new iMac. This weekend I decided to go wireless and picked up a Lynksys E1500 wireless router. I also picked up an iTouch. Now I got the router set up and the iMac connected just fine...but for the life of me I cannot get the iTouch to connect to the network.

I've tried rebooting and setting up the router twice. I've tried changing settings and network on the iTouch. I cannot get this thing to work! And without the network connection it's just a glorified MP3 player.

I want to get this working, but I'm getting annoyed to the point I'm tempted to pack it up and return it for my money back (the iTouch, not the router).

Any insights or advice?

You haven't indicated in what way it "doesn't work." Do you get any error messages? Are you using any wireless keys? How are you configuring the iTouch?

This stuff isn't magic, you need to be specific about what you are doing and what results you get.

I've configured the iTouch. The Wi-Fi icon shows that it's connected, but whenever I try to access something (example: iTunes or Safari) it says it's not connected to the internet. In turn the Cisco Connect router setup says it can't find another device (other than my main computer). And the router is barely three feet away while I'm trying to do this.

When I try to setup up a network connection on the iTouch I enter the name of the router's network and the appropriate password and it just says it can't find it. I've tried both the main network name and the guest name. Nothing.

Am I supposed to enter other settings in manually or what? I don't understand what I'm not doing right. Am i missing something?

I've heard of other users experiencing something similar in that their iTouch seems to work fine finding networks in other places, but not at home where it should be simplest. No?

Does the LinkSys allow you to select which frequency band - 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz - the router uses?

I just got an iPhone, and it only connects to WiFi on the 2.4 Ghz band. Perhaps the Touch is the same.

Okay, go figure. I reset the iTouch's network settings twice and all of a sudden it started working through the guest's network. And my router now sees the device.

Thanks, guys. I was getting frustrated.
