Why won't Spock shave and put on a starfleet uniform?

I do like Spock's Disco look, but I must admit when combined with the tunic/jacket, I keep thinking he looks like an Emo version of Zelda's Link.
You know Spock with a beard though is very associated with the mirror universe. Maybe they should have went another way and shave his head. Seems like everyone shaves their head when locked up on tv or in the movies. Then once he gets his sanity back they can have him wear a hat. You would think with that Vulcan heat, Vulcans would actually be more into hats.

Star Trek IV Vulcan hat. Make it happen. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

More power to the men who can get passed the itchy phase. I can't do it.
My wife got me some kind of a shaving lotion and it was better. Now two years later still rocking a smaller version of Speckbeard :)

My dad always had a beard.. unless he didn't for like a year, then he'd have it again, but always a mustache..!
Had mine for 3 years now, everyone i know says I look better with a beard.. not for some emo/hipster/derp thing..

I like that beards are in, awhile back work didn't let me grow anything more than a mustache.. which i look like a derp in.. then they allowed goatee's.. still derpy.. then about.. ..4 years ago they let us grow it out.. all was cool!

but on subject.. He may still be on leave, but he is working, so he should be in a uniform..

This whole "Speck" thing needs to die. But anyway... Speaking from the sidelines: The full beards now are definitely better than that super-thin, pencil-line chin-strap thing that was going on for a while, before. What the Hell was that? That wasn't a beard. That was an outline of a beard! Now beards are back.

Hope the entire cast has beards by season 3. Can someone add that to the photoshop of everyone in TOS uniforms?

When they do have him shave maybe they will let him use a knife that looks like a Lirpa. All Vulcan knives must look exactly the same like all Bat'leths looked alike with Klingons back in the day.

Or even just a Fez, because as we all know...

Not much of a spoiler - we all know a show once aimed at families and more intelligent kids now devolved into a toddler jamboree. "I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool!! Yuk yuk yuk!!! I'm so cool!!!!!!!" (dribble splashes on floor) Capaldi's era was a brief moment of fresh air, for a while...

I bet a good number of the guys complaining about Spock's beard probably have beards themselves. And of those, a good number probably might even have more hair on their face than on the top of their head.

Correlation vs causation? Is it really due to "beard guilt"? This is getting ridiculous. Especially as everyone ages and male pattern baldness is not a rare condition. Are people with no scalp hair inferior now? What are we to infer?

In-universe, there are enough reasons for him to have a beard. Did they explain why Spock was killing all his shrinks yet? That's probably a tad more important than hair follicles or the lack thereof but I'm waiting until the season finale as there's either a well-defined arc or they're writing anything shock-jock with no arc regarding Spock's use this season.

No. And next time don't put words into my mouth.

I just think it's hypocritical for people to complain about Spock daring to grow a beard, especially if they happen to have a beard themselves.

EDIT: Anyway, Patrick Stewart is bald. And so was Dwight Eisenhower, who's probably in my list of Top 10 Favorite Presidents. And we evolved from hairy apes, so for all we know, the bald might possibly be even more evolved.

Umm Spock isn't killing his shrinks. I'm confused. Did you not watch the episodes that explained that?

The real reason: It's 2019 and beards are in style now. More power to the men who can get passed the itchy phase. I can't do it.

The in-story reason: No idea.
I think the reason is so that the first-time reveal of Spock being back on duty, and in his uniform and clean-shaven, will have more impact.

If they did it incrementally -- i.e., first shave in one episode, then put the uniform on in another episode -- it would not be as impactful.
