Why William Shatner has to be in the Next Film:

DumbDumb2007

Commander
William Shatner made the whole show work from the second Pilot. He made it work in the time of a low budget, low special effects technology ,bland costumes, and bland serile sets. His warmth, peronality, sense of humor , sense of authority and the instant likeability that he posseses made the audience want to watch him.
Without his acting skill and ability the other principle performers and writers would never, ever have been able to do what they did.
Shatner as Kirk should return at a key point in the film that spearpoints the actions of the new cast in their pursuit of the plot of the film. By bring Shatner and Kirk back at the end of the film the whole focus of what Star Trek and this particular very important film is all about.
Leaving him out of the film would have the same effect that Marlon Brando's absence had on Superman 2 years ago. Star Trek 11 will be a good film on it's own. But with the one man that sincerely made it happen with his unique skill and ability included in the movie a Great Film and Huge Box Office Hit will be the result. No Argument, Shatner and the original James T. Kirk MUST return ! I am off to watch the episodes Court Martial and The Doomsday Machine Now.

It's more like when they left him out of The Godfather Part II. ;)

You know, I just with JJ would issue a statement one way or another. Either "Yeah, he's in it" or "No, he's not in it. He wanted too much money and too big a part".

While Shat may bring in some extra money, I don't think there's any real reason to bring him back. Kirk may have been his character, but I'm sure it'll keep rolling on just fine without him. In fact, I would have no complaints if Nimoy wasn't in it either... nothing but the new cast.

Script is done, WGA strike means no changes to written script can be made (adlibs from actors are okay); so, all this equals:

William Shatner is not, and will not being in the film.

However 'Captain James T. Kirk' (the character which made Star Trek as we know it today, work), WILL be in the film.

If there really are an infinite number of parallel universes, somewhere there indeed has to be one in which Shatner is in ST11. So I agree.

How do we know a part for Shatner wasn't put into the script before the strike? This is why I want a statement from Abrams.

Actually, they COULD add something Abrams came up with (as Director...not as a writer) like a nice pic of the Shat alive at the end or something.

But I hope they don't. It's REALLY not necessary. Besides, Shatner convinced me he's MORE a character from a later show than he is James T. Kirk.

NO ONE ELSE could POSSIBLY host Rescue: 911. Ha-RUMPH, sez I!

Kirk was/is my all time action hero, Shatner made him breate. However, no one else has ever had the chance to try! (No knock on Mr. Cawley, but come on....)
Shatner has been in exactly 7 ST "episodes" since 1979, and the franchise has done pretty well in 100's of others without him, from Next Gen to Enterprise (all pale in comparison). James Kirk will always be a pillar of the ST universe, but James Bond anchors HIS world as well. And Roger Moore, Tim Dalton, P. Brosnan and Daniel Craig have all kept it going for over 40 years!
2008 is our chance to see if TOS (which is TRUE Trek) will carry on for years to come, or fade away like Gunsmoke and The Six Million Dollar Man.

A sentiment which will be shared by some folks and not by others.

The participation of original cast members - Nimoy included - is the least interesting aspect of the upcoming movie to me.

It's nice that he's going to be there, I suppose it would be charming if the Shat were there - but it's no big deal either way.

If this movie is as good as it really needs to be to reinvigorate "Star Trek" then this sort of stunt casting is superfluous - a nice-to-have.

If it's not good, then who cares who's in it, period?

If withes were horthes. :rommie: :rommie: :rommie: :rommie: :rommie: :rommie: :rommie:

Thufferin' thuccotasth....

William Thatner can be in the next film... that being Thtar Trek XII

Casting the Iron Lady would be a coo on Abram's part. I'm thinking stuffy Federation bureaucrat.

I did miss that particular film. Leaving Shatner out of the one Kirk specific film that would center on the Legendary Captain doesn't make sense. Shatner should get a juicy cameo at the end of Star Trek 11 and then with Kirk ressurrected either a following film or even a miniseries on TNN could be done about JTK.
