Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season 3?

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

Was there a single good Neelix episode?
Prophecy: Neelix cock-blocks Harry, gets Klingon tail, and destroys Tuvok's quarters. It never would have happened if Kes had remained or Harry had left.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

So they have to get rid of someone to make room for Seven of Nine. So instead of choosing the insufferably annoying and obnoxious character who fans hated with a fiery passion, they choose the likeable, compassionate, and competent one. Voyager, you fail.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

if Kes was there, Neelix would have asked her to pretend that they were still together so that the Klingon girl would try to kill Kes to win Neelix.

Fuck fire, seriously.

I'm in a major heatwave here, give me icy passion GIVE IT TO ME NOW

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

I didn't hate his character. It was odd and peculiar though. "We need this guy as a guide...plus his wife is hot."

"I agree...let's put this important source of intel as....the chef!"

Seriously? It was like Guynan 2.

"We need this woman as she knows important information about some unknown alien species...plus temporal anomalies."

"I know. How about bartender???"

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

His wife is not even remotely hot.

But yes, good comparison of misuse there with Guinan. Though I always assumed that's the role Guinan wanted? Behind the scenes but finger on the pulse.

Come on! Jennifer Lien during those years was quite lovely.

Star Trek: when we don't know what to do with you, we put you in the kitchen or the bar.

Guinan's people are listeners.
There is no better social setting to listen to people and their problems than a bar. People drink to relief stress and drown their sorrows. It was the prefect job for someone like her, that's why she chose it. All the Ambassadors & Diplomats visited 10 Forward. I can only imagine how many people from all over Guinan made friends with just tending bar on the Federation Flagship.

Neelix chose cook because he has no other skills and don't need allot of skill to cook, Chef yes. Cook, not so much. Look at Rachel Ray. However, cooking real food and less replicated saves the ship energy to be used instead for repairs. So Neelix' job actually helps the ship greatly. Plus Neelix being nosey/overly social works for him cause EVERYBODY needs to eat, so you kinda have no choice but to talk to him. The job fits his personality.

Neelix was "the supply sergeant:" he monitored rations and materials; he uses his position to gain the confidence of crew and officers; and he uses his connections with similar people to gain inside information. Neelix's presence on the ship would have made more sense if the show didn't dance around the fact that he represents and archetype.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

If I was scooped up by Voyager in my current state of education and century I would be the cook too. I might also play with Naomi. Otherwise I would be useless. But I would certainly enjoy being armed with a tricorder and foraging for edible vegetables on varying planets and trading for foodstuffs with aliens and trying to devise recipes with limited ingredients that tasted okay.. this is almost my dream job

Based on his ... unorthodox ... relationship with the 9-year-life-span Ocampa Kes, this might be the LAST thing you'd want to recommend Neelix do. :wtf:

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

Kes is an adult, and she would be pretty pissed off if she was seen otherwise based on one species ageing rate differing from hers.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

If she wasn't so nice, Kes might actually ask if the children on Voyager are backward or retarded in some way, because it shouldn't take months to a year just to figure out how to walk.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

If I was an Ocampan freed from the underground city and hanging out with other species I would be seriously pissed off at what a bad deal I got with that lifespan.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

But think how her memory is, how intuitive she must be to grasp everything instantly... Talking to almost every other species may seem like a trip to the old folks home to us, having to talk slowly and over explain and repeat everything.

Or on the other side, remark how you might patronize a 5 year old like their piddling accomplishments are fantastic and astounding...

Maybe Kes wasn't nice. Maybe we and the crew of the Star Ship Voyager are too stupid to recognize how condescending she is being to everyone 100 IQ points her junior?

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

I'd rather learn everything real slow and live longer. It seems to me that if are that genius and learn that fast and are super curious you would want to get out and see the universe and there is only so much universe you can fit into 9 years.

But yeah I could see her after a couple years, having left Voyager, remembering them all as odd pets she once had.
