This thread contains spoilers up to "316."
So if you haven't seen season 5, you probably shouldn't be reading this!

So, this whole "getting back to the island" thing has many questions surrounding it. One thing that I keep wondering is why it only seemed necessary for Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Jack, and Sun to return.
Why not Aaron? He left at the same time as them and was in the plane crash just like the rest.
Why not Walt? For that matter, why didn't the time flashes start when Walt and Michael left? You would think that it would have occured if any of the flight 815 passengers left the island, but obviously this is not so.
Did Ben need to go back, or is he just tagging along because he can't stand to be away from the island?
Does Desmond need to go back? Apparently the island isn't done with him, but does he have anything to do with the time flashes or is he needed for other purposes?
So really, the big question is why those 5 are so important.
Any theories, suggestions, questions, thoughts, go ahead and post them here!
