Why the lack of interest in Sanctuary?

I like it & am I the only one who likes howit reworks the 90s Trek style? Magnus is the captain, the sanctuary is the ship...you got your crew consisting of both humans & non humans & the monsters stand in for the bumby forehead aliens. Its even got its version of Q(Tesla) haha.

I do have one main complaint, can we please get some monsters that dont look like a twelve year old designed them?

The trouble with Sanctuary is that it tends to hit upon great storylines and then let those storylines peter out. The show is at its best when it does big things (the five, vampire apocalypse, underground city, etc.), but those storylines end up disappearing so that we can have more monster-of-the-week. [Yes, I know it's odd that I mention the vampire apocalypse while complaining about monster-of-the-week storylines (as it was a self-contained episode), but that episode was freaking awesome.] I have noticed that they are getting a bit better about this problem (gradually fitting in a lot of the storylines into a greater arc), but it's been a long time coming. I can see why the show hasn't built up a larger audience.

The impression I get (also from reading other sites) is that Sanctuary is one of many SF/F series suffering in current climate. Potentially a hit/breakout show with charismatic actors/characters/concept but increasingly hemmed in by budgets and schedules that don't give writers and creatives room to breathe and develop. Series 4 drops from 20 to 13 episodes. Hardly a vote of confidence.

I watched the first two episodes, but I found it boring. None of the characters grabbed me and the extremely vague (non-existent?) plot of the show didn't compel me to keep going. Not to mention the atrocious production values. There's little there to garner mainstream (by our standards) interest.

Although I am curious about Charlie Jade now.

I agree. That, and the main cast---Magnus, Will, Kate---are all fairly dull, which is surprising, considering their potential. John, Tesla and Henry are far more interesting, and probably better actors, or at least, have slightly more interesting things to do. The rest of the "monster of the week" stuff gets old very quickly. Plus, having Magnus be so "godlike" in that she is always right, always stronger, smarter, faster, etc. makes for very little tension and makes it very hard to actually believe in her as a person.

^Agreed, the show would be better with the five. They are better actors and more interesting characters. Will, Kate, Henry are just boring and seem to go through the motions.

The show has gotten to the point where the only enjoyable episodes for me are the ones that focus on Helen and Tesla.

Every time I see the commercials I think it might be cool, but I just never really get around to being there when it is playing o___O

Sanctuary problem is "its not very good" and just passable to watch when your bored. I store up episodes and watch when am bored "so far I haven't see any of the new episode from 3x11 onwards but am sure during the summer I will get round to it.

I think it started off good only for SyFy to meddle with it. It started as a webseries on a budget and did well for that medium but given a television budget and SyFy's standards it's seemingly lost its way and gone downhill.

A few episodes are great but more exception to the rule. Too many times it feels like there is something more we should be seeing or learning but it gets pushed aside to give us a more typical story like we've seen a hundred times before in other sci-fi/fantasy shows or just regular shows with the "monster of the week" twist.

I have seen only the first season from DVD, so far.
I like it..its a pretty cool, all in all
Some interesting stories, nice characters, likeable cast..and visually very interesting show

my favorite characters are Watson and Tesla

Peter Wingfield is awesome in whatever he's in, and Tesla, while he looks nothing like the greatest inventor ever, is always fun to watch
