They've had ex-Spaced, Dinnerladies, League of Gentlemen and ER stars on, so WHY in the name of all that is Holy have they NOT written a role for RICKY FUCKING GERVAIS?!?!?

He would be AWESOME on DW. I could see him as some kind of snivelling head of an inter-galactic firm that is screwing things up and the doctor has to come in an stop him.


Seriously - Ricky MUST guest star on DW.

Wow, someone else who thinks the same as me... Sure he says it's just an act, but if it is, then why is he ALWAYS playing the same character? Plus, has everyone forgot, he thinks British TV and Films are rubbish, so I doubt he'd want a role even if it were offered.

Same here, although I have to say, I kinda found the christmas special annoying. I mean basically it just rehashed his decision at the end of series 2... what was the point?

You have to love that don't ya... He says that the British scripts he's read have been rubbish, but what does he pick as his first major lead role? A rom-com, with a guy who sees ghosts. Original .

Maybe he isn't a fan either. But he seems to avoid any type of small bit roles that has been offered to him even in American movies. I think he is trying to avoid been just a camo actor or either he thinks he would be following the footsteps of other comedians like Peter Kaye, he seems to take shots at people who do this type of thing. Worked out well for Simon Pegg though.

Just curious because I thought all Brits loved Gervais. This reminds me of something we have in Australia called the "tall poppy syndrome". As soon as somebody thinks they can do better and goes overseas, Australians(used to, not so much today)cut them down and complain that they think they're too good for us now.

I always thought it said more about the self esteem and perceived self worth of the people saying it.

If somebody can do better elsewhere, why stop them?

How many of you would pass up 50,000 pounds a year to star on one of your awful soaps when you could get $5million working on a film for six weeks?

Seems like a good lot of us are British, and I think to a certain extent a lot of it is backlash to his attitude. I don't care if he goes else where and makes money, good on him if he can make himself rich, then why not go for it? What I don't like is that his attitude seems to be "British film and TV is shit, I'm better than that." As well as his whole arrogant "Act" whenever he's on TV, he just comes off as a smug, self-satisfied shit.

I really enjoyed Extras, but couldn't for the life of me understand what was so good about The Office, it may be that I've never worked due to disability, and thus have no idea how much of it is "funny because it's true", but either way, I think any time I've seen him on TV or in movies his characters seem to be the same person with a different name, I don't think he's so talented as he likes to think.
