Why The F**K Hasn't Ricky Gervais Been Offered a Role Yet?!?

i'm British and i never found The Office funny. like Bob, i don't think much of his arrogant act and find it annoying.

I'm British and I've never been a fan (although he was quite funny on the 11 o'clock show) He has his moments, but I actively avoided The Office because it was too much like being at work- also at the time I was a manager carrying about 2 stone more than I do now and with a goatee...

At times I find him amusing, but most of the time just annoying, and I hate the notion that he's gone all Hollywood- to be honest I hate the notion that you haven't made it till you've made it in Hollywood.

Anyway, would HATE him in Dr Who (unless Daleks amusing killed him in the pre title seq)

Re: Wht The F**K Hasn't Ricky Gervais Been Offered a Role Yet?!?

Well he was in Doctor Who on the Extras Christmas Special. :techman:

Exactly. :D

In fact, made reference to that in the DW web comic I tried my hand at back in the spring.

Not sure I could ever really see him in a role in DW but then I never expected Simon Pegg either.

Re: Wht The F**K Hasn't Ricky Gervais Been Offered a Role Yet?!?

thing is Pegg can at least act! :)

I'm British, and I didn't think The Office was at all funny.

I watched The Simpsons episode with him in as well as it got such a build up over here, and that really awful too!

I haven't seen the Office but I've seen all of Extras and really, for me, it was the guest stars that made that series. And for all the Trek fans... you've got to at least watch the episode with Patrick Stewart. :D

If he thinks American Movies and TV are superior then he is an idiot. Our scripted TV dramas all suck. The only good movies come out in the summer. And I will say The American Office is better. The British one is way too dry for me.

I'm British and have never liked Ricky Gervais in or as ANYTHING. I vaguely liked the Office because of the others, I enjoyed Extras because of the guest stars, Ashley Jensen and Barry from Eastenders, but Ricky Gervais, stand-up included, really is not that brilliant.

We've already had to endure Peter sodding Kay in Doctor Who - we don't need another overrated, unfunny comedian-turned-actor in the series.

Wow - I didn't realize so many of you were not too fond of Gervais.

Personally, I think he is BRILLIANT(as you poms might say)!!!!

Yeh I like him. I dunno about him being brilliant or anything, but Extras was a brilliant show I thought. David Bowie singing the "Funny little fat-man" song had me rolling about..

I guess lots of poms regard Ricky Gervais in the same kinda way many of us Aussies regard Kylie Minogue. Are there any British people who are actually sick of the singing-budgie ? Surely there must be. I'd like to meet one.

I wonder if Leo Sayer is similarly despised since he once said he preferred to live over here and called England a "shit-country" ? Actually come to think of it, Leo ain't that hot with anyone nowdays is he..

You take that back about Kylie!!!:klingon:

:lol:Yeah I guess you could be right about attitudes to home grown succeses, although as someone said Simon Pegg doesn't get the sane degree of hatred. Gervais is a smug bugger though- or at least he comes across like a smug bugger.

Yeah, there seems to be an opinion that us Brits don't like people who find success, but it seems to me it's people who find success, and are smug bastards about it that we don't like.

Simon Pegg, is a good example, he seems well liked, and he's pretty much done the same thing, had a couple of successes, done some American films, and he's still well liked.

but si's not smug, nor has he become over-exposed like Gervais. he's still a bit cult...

he's also a geek. and quite unashamedly so, which makes him a demi-God in my not-so-humble opinion.

I never got the office either, however I did quite like Extars, that said Doctor Who is a star all by itself, yes big names are nice, but it doesnt need the star power that Gervais has, and TBH I think it would hurt the episode more than it would help it.
