Why Picard is better than Kirk

Mackenzie Calhoun liberated a planet before he was 18, before he even joined the Academy. he welded his face back together after it was cut open by a sword. with no anaesthetic. Calhoun punches everyone out with one punch that most people don't even see coming. Calhoun defeated Apollo's family.

so, yeah.

Captain Robau laughs at your petty comparisons of inferior starship captains!

As does his brother and equal, Turkish Luke Skywalker...
I thought no one was equal to Captain Robau?

Sisko is better than both, so it doesn't really matter.

This is the truth.
He's not called "The Sisko" for nothing
So very true. Of all the Captain's Sisko is the best, but seeing as how it was just a Kirk vs Picard question I went with the Englishman in the Frenchman's body.

No, no, no.......

Archer has them both beat.
No. No he doesn't. Even Captain Esteban of the Grissom beats Archer.

Picard surrendered in the first episode, Kirk buried his first godlike enemy. Kirk wins, it's what he does.

Neither is better. They are just different men in different times, so comparing them doesn't accomplish much. Sheesh, must the debate always keep resurfacing?

Okay, how about Captain Ransom? Or Pike?
Captain Ransom was obsessed with getting his crew home, and damn the consequences. Though morally bankrupt, he was still better than Archer--I felt sorry for him, rather than just wanting to kick him full force in the crotch (as I often felt when watching Archer).

Pike was a good Captain, he really felt the burdens of command but kept on making the hard decisions (the TV version that is). The film version was ready, willing and able to sacrifice himself for the good of his ship and crew.

I'm with the "Kirk is better camp." That's not to say Picard is a bad captain/character, because he's not. It's just that I find Kirk adds a bit more style to the way he carries himself, no matter the situation.

Picard's adherence to Starfleet regs (in the series, not movies ;) ) is admirable, and the lengths he goes to in order find a diplomatic solution to every problem is equally so...but sometimes both need a quick boot out the airlock in order to get problems solved and move on to the next planet of the week, and in that sense, Kirk is the perfect captain for the job. He IS a classic sci-fi action hero in the truest sense.
