Why not have a ship full of holograms?

So I just finished watching Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy from Season 6 and damn, what a great episode. It got me thinking how a ship full of holographic crew would fair in deep space.

Pro's:
- Even without a mobile emitter the holographic systems use up a lot less power than life support for biological life forms
- Generally more reliable
- Less fragile than humans
- Can be trained and taught much faster than a biological life form

Con's:
- Computer's memory gets wiped. Game over entire crew.

There was an episode of Voyager where Janeway actually commented on that. She said something to the effect of "If the Federation just wanted scientific data they would have sent out a fleet of probes. Starfleet wanted to be out here for us to see it with our own eyes."

Or something to that effect (been a while).

That is one of the dangers storywise by making The Doctor and other holograms too advanced. I remember having my doubts when The Doctor got that emitter. The next step is a ship full of holograms and how fun is that?

I'd find an crew of holograms entirely boring.

I love these fanwanks that have EMHs, ETHs(Tactical), EWTFHs... seriously.

It's supposed to be the Human adventure. Supplement it with AI characters
or in-Universe, crewmembers. But never forget it's our experience, not just
a computers.

OT: I just realized in one of the Shatner novels he does have a ship that has an entirely holographic crew minus the Captain.

You need at least one in engineering to do repairs when there are radiation/temperature extremes and you don't have time to put on protective gear.
