Why no DS9, Voy, or even Enterprise movie.

Now that Star Trek has had a reboot, I think it is a fair question to ask why the other three series did not get a shot at a movie.

Now, to be honest, I watched DS9 and Most of Voy, but I stopped watching Enterprise with "Rogue Planet", so I don't know if it was mention why there were no movies.

I mean they could have had Voyager go through the worm hole and had both cast, or most cast members from both series. (Those people not there could have been reassigned or something)

But I would have like to see a movie with these two series, anything would have been better than the final two Nex Gen movies.

Simple economics, at the end of the day despite general critical praise, DSN reieved fewer ratings than TNG, and the decline in viewership continued throught VOY and by the time ENT finishedout viewing figures where dismal.

Perhaps another fair question might be:

Isn't this really more a topic for the General Trek Discussion forum?

According to Brent Spiner, the original plan for after Nemesis was a "Justice League of Trek" movie which would have used time travel to unite characters from all the TV series' (or the ones they could afford/would be willing) against a similar team-up of villains.

After that, the plan was for a Romulan War ENT-era movie, but one without Archer or the Enterprise (who are at Risa and miss the entire thing, which says everything about TPTB's opinion of an ENT movie at that time) and instead focusing on the grandfather of James T. Kirk, a guy called Tiberius Chase. More info here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34635

While I'd love to hop to a parallel universe or two and buy the DVDs, I think we got the sweeter deal with the TOS reboot.

I'm disappointed the various crews never got a chance to appear together in a movie but by the time Nemesis came out it was obvious the franchise was in a lull. None of the spin offs besides TNG had enough popularity to warrant solo movies. I'm glad DS9 was given a definitive finale since we'll likely never revisit that show again. Voyager's finale was a disappointment but likewise the story was wrapped up. They got home. Voyager in the Alpha Quadrant is TOS and TNG by another name. I can't say I craved seeing Voyager on the big screen.

I think Trek is in danger of relying too heavily on TOS characters. What happens when the current movie series comes to a close? Another TOS reboot? I hope the big wigs don't forget Trek managed to be a success without the TOS characters. I'd like to see a brand new crew at some point.

As long as you ignore the passage of time and the fact those three series were poorly watched, sure...it's a totally fair question.

Hollywood is only going to give you a movie if they think they have a shot of making money off of it. No one cared about these shows the day after they wrapped.

Easy. Because the casual moviegoing audience doesn't give a crap about Picard and his crew, Sisko and his crew, Janeway and her crew, or Archer and his crew. They may barely even know who they are. So there's no point in making a movie about characters nobody cares about.

These days you don't make a movie only to cater to a relatively small percentage of that movie's fanbase, if that movie is going to make any money. Nemesis was a case in point.

Even fan films largely steer clear of the spinoffs.

DS9 would have to be a movie centered on the return of Ben Sisko and the legacy of the Dominion War. It has a lot of history to cash in on and very high stakes and the lure of Executive Meddling is just too strong; producers will create an awesome flick, and studio executives will turn it into something lame and retarded.

Enterprise wasn't nearly popular enough for a movie treatment. And even if it was, it would work better being filmed in the same ERA, not necessarily the same crew (Didn't Berman pitch "Star Trek: the Beginning" about the Earth-Romulan war or something like that?)

I mean they could have had Voyager...

Voyager had a few of what could be considered TV movies, in a few mid-season multi-part event episodes.

Yeah, you can't really fault Hollywood for going with Kirk and Spock era stories when the most popular fan-productions are doing the same.

Crazy Eddie, don't hotlink other people's pictures, please. Either host them on your own space or post them as links rather than as embedded images. You know that.

I think at some point a TNG reboot will happen, but otherwise, yeah, we're likely going to see a few more reboots of TOS before anything new is attempted.
