Why no Bajoran Starfleet officers on DS9?

    IIRC, someone's first five years or so in the RCMP are generally spent in remote regions.

    Indeed. And perhaps most of the bajorans who join Starfleet are trying to leave Bajor and see other parts of the galaxy.

    The occupation wasn't even all that long ago. Star Fleet training takes time.

    The British did that in India as well after the Indian mutiny of 1857. That practice prevented soldiers from joining local people in revolts.

    Yes, the British learned a lot from the Romans. I'm not sure if it's the reason they taught Latin in all their schools, or a result of it.

    During a brutal occupation, not everybody among the oppressed populace wants to stay there and fight against the occupiers. Some just want to get as far away as possible for the sake of survival. And then some manage to make their way to Federation territory and try to get into Starfleet.
