Why is the delta quadrant so very far away??

Well it was the caretaker who drew them to a specific location, his array near Ocampa so he could find out if they were capable of mating with him.

It's kind of strange that no one seemed to mind that this guy was kidnapping people from all over the Galaxy for the purpose of raping them.

What could anyone do about it? It's not like anyone in the alpha quadrant even knew what was going on until their ship got pulled there, and Banjoman didn't seem too concerned with sending everyone back home once he had his way with them. And the array seemed situated in some backwaters corner of the delta quadrant, where there was no major power like the Federation to investigate.

No, I mean that in the show no one shows any disgust at this guy for what he was doing and they sympathize with him. Guys, he brought you there to see if you were compatible with him for a rape!

it's really unfortunate that the doctor cured harry of the Caretaker Space Herpies that was going to kill him and B'Elanna in the pilot...

He got the space clap twice!

Once, you're a stupid kid, twice and you're an idiot for still taking stupid chances or your idiot for trusting someone who doesn't deserve your faith.

Do we count that 8472 gave him the cosmic clap too?

Fricking gerbil is a magnet for space stds.
Hey now, that was a fungal infection, not viral. Or perhaps a male yeast infection (Caretakers being sporocystian lifeforms). 8472, that wasn't sexual unless they somehow thought the nostrils were the sexual orifaces. It was biological kudzu though. Now, the Taresian syndrome and Varro thing, those were STDs. He might be the biggest vector of new STDs on Earth when Voyager got back.

I like that they changed warp speed to be slower, makes the universe so much bigger. They could have explained the faster speeds within Federation space by saying there was some kind of network of warp enhancers along important routes or something.

I suspect they only changed it for one reason. They dumbed it down for the aduiance.

After all a 70 year trip for 70 000ly is so much easier for the audiance to understand than a 47.3 year journey for the trip.

Or if you prefer they don't expect the average viewer to go into details like calculating Warp speeds from the bits and pieces that could be gleamed from episodes. Which is true for the average viewer, but it is well known ST fans (i.e the core audiance) do look at things like that.

I'm thirty I can see why so many guys are attracted to Janeway. God I used to think she was old. Now I'm old!!)
Well, Mrs. Columbo (foil to Mrs. Caretaker), she isn't ugly and looks fair for being middle aged, though older now, I still don't feel attracted to her. Might be the raspy smoker's voice. Then again, maybe it was because she bore some resemblance in the face/voice to that battleaxe Ma Fratelli from The Goonies II & the mother from Throw Momma from the Train. It kinda looked like if you made Janeway older, meaner, and uglier, that's what you get.

I agree she looked old to my young eyes when Voyager started, but that bob took 25 years off how old I thought she was.

Hey I was 19, I expected there to be a love story in the mix.

When i was 15, I would have expected a porno.

When I was 15 I was a Neanderthal, but when I was 19 I was just a bit of a girl.

They had to get home quick because the Delta Quadrant is a dangerous place filled with stupid people.
Voyager is capable of Warp 9.98 and this is approx. 7900 times light speed. Cruise speed is much different, though, as you can see it takes 70 yrs. to go 100,000 lt. yrs.

At 7900 lt.speed it is:

5 sec across solar system
less than 5 hrs. to nearest star
8.86 yrs. to complete Voyagers journey
|||
Apparently it takes less than a day in a transwarp conduit.
Acouple weeks using slipstream.
