Why is it?

She meant :techman:

Yeah, it certainly seemed like a sort of "Great idea, I only wish I could be there to play them with you all day! Oh, and get a PS3, they're Blu-ray!!!" kind of sigh.

Or a "I spent half my life between the ages of 16 and 25 watching people play video games and it makes me want to drive and icepick through my fucking skull, especially those idiotic story/quest games" kind of sigh.

Its a subtle difference.

Indeed - you are a master of subtlety.

I game - not nearly as much as when I wasn't married, but a decent amount. I certainly cuss, like today when I made a couple of horrendous shots playing Tiger '09. But I don't get genuinely mad, or throw or hit things.

This may be due to having my 5 year old son watch me play the majority of the time.

Who knows.

It happens on occasion - usually when being defeated by a cheap shot seconds away from achieving my goal in a game. After 10 or 20 times in a row, it can get frustrating. Same reason men swear when they're working on cars/electrical/plumbing. It can be delicate, painstaking, or frantic work, and when it doesn't go right time after time even the best of us can lose our patience.

Some of the things I've yelled at the screen while playing old-school Mortal Kombat recently would've offended George Carlin.

.. would've offended George Carlin.

Right.. and then hell froze over. :)

To be fair, though, I am never loud about it, and I never throw things, especially anything to do with my prized video games. I have been known to throw and kick things when working on other projects, however.

I road rage a fair bit, and used to get quite annoyed at games that were frustrating me. Nowadays though I usually take it as a sign I need to get better, or there's something about the way I'm playing that means I need a break, and when I come back, my mind's either out of the rut it got itself into while playing, or some backdoor department in my mind has figured out a solution in the meantime.

The exception to the break rule for games, would be playing online. Imagine the rage potential of an activity crossed with computer games, and going online along with some of the dregs of humanity the internet has the ability to pit alongside you on occasion (TNZers may have a better idea about this) ;) Some people are just unbelieveable.

Would any of young men of Trekbbs (or older ones for that matter) like to admit that they totally lose their temper when playing games?
Testosterone. And women's body produces it, too, so it's not just a male problem (even if maybe a bigger one for us).

Yes, my son's anger unnerves me. He has broken games controllers when he has thrown them across the room etc. I tell him "if the game is that frustrating, stop playing it"
No, that would defeat the purpose of the game. Some people play to take out the stress in a safely manner. Maybe he is mild-mannered also because he can defuse the repressed anger with video games.

I don't get angry, but I definitely get competitive. The last time that I can recall losing my temper was probably 5 or so years ago. My brother said a remark to me, and it ended with the door to his room being broken down. I try to control it since then.
