Why I refuse to ever watch this movie

I don't see a Star Trek film to 'enjoy' it, I go to make sure it honors the established canon and legacy of TOS. If I DO see the film, I will have a clipboard in hand and will write down all the mistakes and violations of canon I see,,,
Then you must be pissed off at just about every Star Trek movie ever made. I can go through the canonical mistakes made in ever single movie. Star Trek in general doesn't really follow it's own canon that well.

You're dismissed as a troll because you are one, you call me out on being incapable debating with you and all you've done through this thread is step over every argument which has destroyed your petty opinions. Please.

Oh get a life!

I've been with Trek since '68 and I thought the movie was a blast. But you'll never know, will you?

What is it they say at the beginning of the show? Something about boldly going.....

nice projection there fellah...

The only arguments you have provided so far are "IT'S NOT CANON" and "Yesterday's Enterprise erased the timeline!"

The first argument is blatantly false, and the second is debatable. You're not really providing very good reason for anyone to agree with you.

There will always be the troll type fan that is bitter about something or other, cling to the old stuff all you want and be happy with it. But why are you raining on everybody else's parade this week, the most successfully rated and what will be the highest grossing Star Trek movie is blasting off, and these guys are ticked off.

You remind me of certain Star War fans being so bitter towards the prequels.
Never happy with the new and always living in the past.

Just a simple suggestion for you guys, learn to enjoy the present.

It's after midnight here in Australia, so it's about time for me to get to bed. Why do I get the feeling that when I wake up, this thread will either be locked or 25 pages long?

If that's all true, then why was the entire point of the movie to wipe out the last 40 years of story from the 'verse?

Looks at DVD shelves.

Uh, there're all still there. Maybe Paramount haven't got around to taking mine away yet?

My, aren't you so clever? I didn't say that Paramount was going to steal DVDs or anything of the sort. Though I should expect such a sophomoric response at this point, since it really does seem like all NuTrek fans can do is flame and insult people.

I said that Paramount's goal is to ignore the history of the franchise from this point forward. And that they're doing so primarily for the benefit of people who, like most of the so-called 'fans' on this board, don't actually really like Star Trek in the first place.

Star Trek has been alienating more and more of its fanbase with each new installment.

This is Star Trek's chance to attract new fans. I don't understand why the old fans are so opposed to that.

I made point of boycotting this film, and do not regard it as being 'real' Star Trek canon. Established canon has been ignored, which is a slap in the face to decades of Star Trek fans. I know the story is an 'alterante timeline', and that tells me the Leonard Nimoy Spock could have been from an alternate timeline as well, and was not the 'real' Spock.
This film really bothers me- I'd rather see Star trek die gracefully, rather than be torn down and be repelaced with something inferior.
I will NEVER see this film, that would be showing disrespect to TOS cast and fans.
Oh, you'll cave. Someday. You'll be sitting around watching something on Spike TV and there will be a commercial for the "world television premiere" and you'll give in to your curiosity. :techman:

Since Trek isn't (or at least shouldn't be!) a religion...it doesn't even have canon. There's just established continuity.

The thing is the writers, actors, producers of the original show, and likely The Great Bird Himself would feel quite sad that someone wouldn't see the new movie.

Well Im glad you are around that tell us if we are real fans are not.

I LOVE Star Trek, but I am also realize it needed a major change, and it got that, in a good way. Don't like it, go watch your TOS DVDs.

You don't seem to have any problem with tossing around words like "sophomoric" yourself, though.

I hear there was no Robert April in the movie. HE was the 1st captain of the Enterprise, not Pike
You have the audacity to come in here whinging about canon and then post this crap? Troll.

Now I'm beginning to think you're yanking our chains.

No.
I just take issue when people crap on TOS
You've proven you're a troll with that stupid post about not going to see a film other than to ensure it honours what came before it and taking a goddamned clipboard with you. Troll.
As I pointed out in the other thread, in-thread accusations like this are no good. Don't do that any more.

I don't see a Star Trek film to 'enjoy' it, I go to make sure it honors the established canon and legacy of TOS. If I DO see the film, I will have a clipboard in hand and will write down all the mistakes and violations of canon I see,,,
This post right here doesn't make me very confident in believing that the accusation was entirely off-base, though. Several others by you aren't a great deal more encouraging. This thread is done.

Wait, one more thing, before we go:
Why are NEGATIVE opinions about this movie not welcome?

Has the TrekBBS become simply a "Star Trek Support Forum"?

I've seen more well received negative comments about President Obama on a Democratic Bulletin Board than I've seen about Star Trek here.
Dayton3, if you're as well-informed about matters in this forum as you claim to be, then you'd know not only that negative opinions are perfectly allowable, but also that I've requested for months that politics not having any direct bearing on the Star Trek topic at hand -- and particularly US partisan politics -- be kept out of discussions in this forum. There are places appropriate to political topics and this is not one of them. Therefore, I can only infer that you're deliberately and pointedly thumbing your nose at that request and that the above was intended as a troll. You now have a warning for it.
