Why I refuse to ever watch this movie

A new timeline means the original timeline was ERASED
No it doesnt, the original timeline goes on as normal, this one is ALTERNATE. Do you understand that word? Go check your DVD shelf, Im sure all your old trek is still there.

I disagree- think of the STTNG epsisode 'Yesterday's Enterprise'- When the enterprise C went back into the rift, it ERASED the reality where the Klingons conquered the Federation. Likewise, whatever happened in the new star Trek film changed history and ERASED all the events of TOS, and of the events of the following series-

That's just one episode. There are many other episodes that show there are mirror/alternate universes and even say there are many of them. Remember the episode where Worf gets put into a million of them over the course of a day? The future that happened with Yesterday's Enterprise probably still could have happened anyway.

Use your imagination. It's not that difficult to rectify this problem.

If that's all true, then why was the entire point of the movie to wipe out the last 40 years of story from the 'verse? This wasn't done for the sake of the story, this was done for the sake of ditching 40 years of the most popular and powerful science-fiction franchise in order to cash in on Star Wars prequel and NuBSG fans.

I don't see a Star Trek film to 'enjoy' it, I go to make sure it honors the established canon and legacy of TOS. If I DO see the film, I will have a clipboard in hand and will write down all the mistakes and violations of canon I see,,,

I thought you were serious up until this point.

Now I'm beginning to think you're yanking our chains.

No.
I just take issue when people crap on TOS
You've proven you're a troll with that stupid post about not going to see a film other than to ensure it honours what came before it and taking a goddamned clipboard with you. Troll.

Actually, the point was to make a movie that would be profitable to the studio (with the hope that it would also be a good movie). They chose to adopt a particular approach because they believed it would accomplish the goal they'd set for themselves. IF they had believed it more profitable to remain in the "original timeline", then they'd have gone that route. There is no nefarious "get stuffed" motive--there is only the "let's make some money and have fun while we're at it" motive.

Looks at DVD shelves.

Uh, there're all still there. Maybe Paramount haven't got around to taking mine away yet?

Thank you, I totally agree, and couldn't have said it any better.

I am struck by the number of people who couldnt care less that Star trek canon has been ditched; if not ditched, then replaced

Because Star Trek has been dying a slow, painful death for the last decade, and some people wanted to see it shine again.

Because most people watch movies and TV shows to be entertained, and we understand that it's not real.

They should have let Star Trek just die out peacefully

How about, just stop bitching. Pretend it's dead. Don't see it.

Bury your head in the sand and all will be well for you!

I am serious. The new film is not serious. Thats the problem.

How can you say that when you haven't seen it? You're acting on assumptions which is the height of ignorance. See the movie, then talk to it. It's not like it's going to ruin your life. And if it COULD ruin your life, then you're the biggest loser I've ever had--albeit limited--contact with.

Classy- when you can't debate an issue with someone online, you dismiss them as a troll so as to end debate- Perhaps because you know that what i've said is true.
