Why I Couldn't Get Enough Enterprise.

^The TNG parts of the finale is supposed to be set during the 7th Season episode "The Pegasus" - not that if you actually watch that TNG episode it makes any more sense really, but I presume that the lesson he learnt was to trust his Captain (since that was the last Trip/Chef(Riker) scene really said and that Trip sacrificed his life for Archer).

As for if the show had continued on in Season 5 with TATV still being the last ep of the 4th Season, I agree that that would have sucked watching the last few seasons knowing that Trip was basically a goner in a few years time. Who wants to see a character with a definite death sentence hanging over them.

I think Braga (sp) said that no matter what that was going to be the final eps of that season so wouldn't get it how really do you start a season 5 with Trip alive?? Its like excuse was show was set 6 years later so its like so if the show went on for the time that the other shows went on we woiuld have to watch Trip die again for no reason??

And thanks Lady wasn't sure what the message was that Riker was trying to get from what Trip did?? Even though I was glad to see the hero worship thing finally leave Trip when they wrote S3 and S4!!

I remember him saying that, but I also thought the episode was not written until they knew season 4 was going to be the last season.

The problems with having TATV as the season finale if the show had continued: writers with brains who might think that it's time to promote somebody wouldn't be able to do it; they could have proceeded with the plan to add Combs to the cast, but the "future" TATV makes no reference (which would make no sense to the fans, not that anything in that mess did make any sense); the writers would be shackled by the "breakup" of Trip and T'Pol (as if we hadn't gotten enough "angst" already; so we'd never get to see them grow up ); Trip would have to regress to being a frahd catfish and pee-Kahn pah eatin' hick ; Reed would have to be turned into a Trip-hating, utterly incompetent, albeit voraciously ambitious security chief, in order to explain his behavior in TATV...

Seriously, everyone is so wildly out of character that they'd have to ignore the first three seasons, minus that one episode.

I don't think Trip ever was this, EXCEPT in TATV - He learned about engines by working on boats? Really, Hoshi? Lots of warp-driven boats in the Everglades, are there?

Yep see thats what I don't get you could say that no matter what that was going to be S4 finale and its like how do you correct that when and if there was a S5?? I never quite got that when you read interviews by those who wrote that eps; if there was a S5 would you really have made that eps. And I mean for me you really couldn't even if its a future eps.

I mean I enjoy watching the eps of enterprise watched them again last night; have to watch acquisition and Trip walking around in blue underwear and Jeffrey Combs as Ferengi and Neelix's actor also. Anyway I still watch them. Me addicted. But the final eps of the show makes no sense they should have given the show a proper send off like actors deserved a two hour ender that made sense.

I'm not sure we saw the same episode. I'll say this, I think that what made Trip fun was his everyman personality -- the Southern accent, the harmonica he played, the fact he liked comic books, that he read and watched science fiction and cried during Shane. A bit stereotypical, but fun.

Reed. What gave you the impression he hated Trip? (I'll give you the security issues.)

We could have had someone being promoted and then being demoted again or vica versa, like we had in voyager. I certainly wouldn't put that past them.

Yeah, that would have been a bit if they had added him to the crew of the Enterprise, unless he was there on an exchange program. That way there would be leeway for him to get another ship of his own.

I didn't mind the anguist. It didn't bother me so much because a unique relationship like that wouldn't have been smooth running anyway. Then again, who's to say Holo T'Pol was programmed right anyway in that episode. Maybe they kept it hidden because of everything with Terra Prime.

This is where the episode failed as it seemed all of the characters devolved into their Season One counterparts. Absolutely ridiculous considering how they had all grown and developed by Season 4

Actually, he did come across early on as a bit of a hick ... fortunately Connor stood up for the character and they moved away from that nonsense. As for the whole "Trip got his start on boat engines..." I don't think it's such a ridiculous statement on its own. He had to get his start somewhere, why not on boat engines? He was probably a kid.

The problem with Hoshi's comment is that, taken in context, she's disparaging the ship's chief engineer as an ill-educated rube because he doesn't "care about language." Nice respect for a guy who was a commander at age 31 from a subordinate who is still an ensign 10 years after boarding Enterprise.

I liked how Connor was playing Trip early on like I said I think my big problem always was the hero worship of Archer and glad they finally ended that I think once the friendship had taken a toll in Cogenitor (sp) and he started talking lots more to Phlox which became a fun friendship to watch he seem to confide alot in Phlox. And then the neuro pressure sessions with Tpol; I mean those two from time they met where fun cause they didn't get along then all of a sudden its like S3 comes along and the two have a great chemistry and he can also talk to her. I think once the friendship with Archer starts to come back around it was fun to watch those two but I find Trips background intresting and how Connor did make Trip an enjoyable character to watch and good points on how young he was to be a Commander; I always say you watch whenever Trip is in charge of the Enterprise he does a great job even in the Vulkon ARc in S4! Ok probobly babbled my way through that one lol!

Has to be a continder for stupidest dialog in any Star Trek series. Right up there with some stuff from "Spock's Brain."

It seemed like s1 and s2 were big pecan pie and catfish seasons other then the final eps of the show; I mean you pretty much knew that is what Trip liked but funny Sim liked Key Lime! But it seemed they toned that down a bit when they got to writing about the Expanse and the passing of his sister its like once they established we are going to have a Trip/Tpol thing going they didn't stress to much on the pie and the fish. Like I said don't miss the Archer worshiping either that got tiresome. So there were things about Trip they did tone down on.

I never thought Trip "hero-worshiped" Archer either. I think they were friends and he listened to his captain (sometimes not enough). I think he admired him, but not worshiped.

Thank you, SFRabid. I knew I wasn't crazy (about that quote, anyway).

Frankly, I don't see anything in particular about Trip that screams "hick!" Southern, yes, but there's nothing inherently uneducated about him. As a New Englander, my first reaction to him was You might be a redneck... - but then I realized I was making assumptions that weren't warranted at all. I, after all, had no problem with Lieutenant Reed's obvious accent - isn't that because an English accent is perceived to be more intelligent and classy than a southern one? T'Pol had a favorite cultural food; but that's okay because she's Vulcan. Archer's a "steak and potatoes" guy - perfectly acceptable. But when Trip opens his mouth and admits that his favorite food is quintessentially southern coastal, and OMG! plays a harmonica badly, I jump to the conclusion that he's a dumb hick. When in reality, he'd have to be a ridiculously talented, highly educated, VERY adaptable warp theory engineer to even get near this ship, let alone be on its crew, and beyond that to be its chief engineer. Was he as smart as T'Pol? Nobody was. Was he kind of provincial? Sure, but so was every human on that ship (and Phlox and T'Pol, too, on occasion).

I sound like a Trip apologist. Wow, don't know how that happened! I guess one of the reasons why I couldn't get enough Enterprise is that the characters were all endearing to me, quirks and all.

Awww man! That would have been cool and the gang. I'm so sick that they didn't get their seven seasons (at least)! Shran was one of my favorite Trek characters.
