Why hasn't there been more from Star Trek actors in support of Obama?

Re: Why hasn't there been more from Star Trek actors in support of Oba

Apparently, President-Elect Obama did not need Star Trek actors to endorse his campaign. Mr. Obama received the support needed most: the endorsement of the American People.

Heck, I wouldn't mind Abrams' Trek being delayed another two weeks, if only to put in a CGI model cameo of the USS Barack Obama.

Actually, for the next "Futurama" direct-to-DVD Matt Groening is working on conceptual artwork for glass head jars of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden as we speak.

Then, what does Star Trek mean to you?

What does it represent?

Is it just another "vapid" entertainment like most TV shows that have been produced over the decades, or did it also serve as a vehicle for ideas, issues, culture, politics, literature, history, and discourse that have permeated the cultural lexicon of the United States and abroad for the last 40 years?

Yes.

Well, that explains it then.

Here is further proof that those few at the top who have concentrated power among the few elite and inclusive political, corporate, and military leaders that lead our nation do not want the general populace to think and change the ideology and very paradigm of the American populace:

American leaders want to remain in power and in control of its citizens by redistributing wealth to the wealthy (While the middle class fights amongst themselves for crumbs.), keeping its populace under-educated, generally uninformed, and collectively stupid.

I think you have met some Washington Republicans.

I don't think movies are as able to cover current topics as well as does television. Star Trek alone will have taken 4 years from conception to screen. Much can change during that period of time to make what seemed so relevant, at the time, seem rather outdated on screen.
Television has a more rapid schedule from pilot to production which makes it able to react more quickly to changes in topics and values.

Some poeple on this board may agree with me, and some people on this board may disagree with me, and that is fine when I say that there has been no other constant mass media product out there like Star Trek did for 40 years that celebrated the diversity of the human race.

How could we go from discussig, for example, the first non-stereotypical African American character on television (Lieutenant Uhura), the first inter-racial kiss between Nichelle Nichols and Bill Shatner, Martin Luther King Jr. congratulating Ms. Nichols for her opening doors for the positive portrayal of African Americans on television (which inspired many celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg), Ms. Nichols recruitment of African American astronauts into NASA such as Dr. Mae Jameson during the 1970's-1980's, etc., yet not celebrate the historic presidency of Barack Obama as part of that same celebration by acknowledging the views of actors and Star Trek alums like Nichelle Nichols who have been part of that same Ciivil Rights movement for many years now?

Whatever verbage I am using right now, you guys know what I am talking about here, and it is of concern that no one appears to care at all like the way they used to when Star Trek once a popular mass media vehicle that celebrated racial diversity in the United States.

Whether or not you choose to care is up to you. But, with President-elect Barack Obama winning the 44th presidency of the United States this week, my opinion as a Star Trek fan (not yours) is of a slight concern that all of those media outlets and publications that cared about minute details like whether or not Chris Pine's eye and hair color matches up with Bill Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk did not -- not even one reporter or interviewer -- track down Ms. Nichelle Nichols or another African American Star Trek alum of his or her opinion on this historic occassion and how far we have come since Star Trek first debuted in 1966. Our mass media, cultural/political/historical movements of the United States helped bring about this change, and especially (topically) with a new Star Trek feature film coming out in 2009, and with media outlets struggling to find any juicy, even remotely tangential connection to Star Trek type news to cover and report before its premiere, This could have been "it" folks, and they blew it! That is, "if" they even cared about the relevance of this in the mass media (rather than reporting on another Paris Hilton type gossip) in first place.

Not even one reporter at Entertainment Weekly or an interviewer at Trekweb decided to contact Ms. Nichols or any other African American Star Trek alum and get their collective comments in regards to this historic moment in relation to Star Trek just simply irks me for the very fact that whatever cultural currency and value Star Trek once held was spent a long time ago and has been replaced and re-categorized as nothing but "vapid entertainment" by the masses, or at least its consensus -- whether they be the corporation that owns Star Trek or from a lot of the fans (debatable) themselves.

Horseshit. "Redistributing to wealthy." How, by taking away only half their income every year?? How the hell is letting the people who pay 95% of the taxes in this country keep a few more of the dollars THEY FUCKING EARNED "redistributing"? What an absolute perverse use of the term, considering the Obama tax plan is based on true redistribution - taking from those that have.
Now before this goes further, howbout taking your soapbox into the Neutral Zone?

When I mentioned American leaders, I meant the current ones such as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and their cronies.

Settledown, I am in support of President-elect Barack Obama and his economic policies, and hoping that more of that wealth is redistributed to the middle class and the poor, rather than that money which has mostly been going to the upper class and the wealthy by the George W. Bush administration for the last 8 years.

The majority of American voters elected President-elect Obama into office, and I hope and pray that he brings about real change to our country from now and in the years to come.

On television, DS9 was prescient when it came to 9/11 and Homeland Security, and explored issues of war, annexation, religion, espionage, and politics.

That would be a neat trick since 9/11 happened two years after DS9 ended....

Then, all we pretty much got for discourse were primarily superficial discussions on how big Seven of Nine and Tpol's boobs were in VOY and ENT.
You missed that allegorical third season then...

Spoken like a true, non-African American.
Wow. That's not laced with racism at all.

Has Star Trek become so less culturally relevant in recent years that there are no comments or interviews from Star Trek actors of African American descent on the possibility of a Barack Obama United States presidency?

So, only African American Trek actor's opinions count? What about people like George Takei or Kate Mulgrew, who are very supportive of Obama and have said so publicly. Do that not count because they are not African American?

On a side note, has Shat made any comments on the election at all?

Actually, for the next "Futurama" direct-to-DVD Matt Groening is working on conceptual artwork for glass head jars of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden as we speak.

Uh...You do realize that most of the movie is already animated or well into the process that adding stuff would be extraordinary difficult at a late stage. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but can you provide a link for your claim, please?

You really need to look up the definition of prescient.

No, I just need to read more carefully in the future. :p

In any event, the comparison to DS9 relating to 9/11 is flimsy at best. I wouldn't count it as topical, mostly because it wasn't topical (in a traditional sense) until you re-watched the episode after said real-world events. Anything can become topical after the fact depending on whatever events the world finds itself in.
