*I* think it's cool to be a Trek fan and that's all that matters.

No, that's what watching "Desperate Housewives" or "90210" is for

^ Call me a mad romantic fool, but I suspect that very few TV shows are all that helpful in this area. Just sayin'!
Are there fans so ashamed they lie about it? Are there fans who name some other show as a favorite rather than admit that they really love ST? Is there a ST closet?
I'd say there is because I'd rather not admit it since I usually run across people who are like "Star Trek sucks!" it's just a pet peeve of mine I like to avoid.kissthestar wrote:

in the 90's when TNG was on in the mid to latter part of the series, ds9 and the movies came out, it seemed like trek was more in the mainstream than it feels now, even with the anticipation of the new movie. It was almost cool to be a trek fan in those days. Now it seems like we're back to being "uber nerds" or "geeks" for liking trek, what could have possably happened to bring about this stigma?![]()
Um... I'm not sure because outisde the internet I rarely run into
anyone who thinks something of it. Most people I tell them I am
a Star Trek fan without hesitation and they just accept it.
None of my friends are Star Trek fans, but as time has gone on
they have all gained interest and now want to see the new film.
People just need to stop being insecure about who they are and
what they do and they will begin to gain more respect.
I know I can't possibly be the only one the atmosphere is off-putting to.
Are there degrees of "out" when it comes to the ST closet? If 10 is wearing Spock ears on any leisure occasion, and 1 is telling no one, where would most of us find ourselves on the spectrum?
Has it ever been cool?

I'm with you, too!
Raging hatred from those ST fans, who somehow can't accept change, despite ST's message of IDIC (Infinite Diversity, Infinite Combinations), bewilders me. But it's been around since ST:TMP.
