However, I too would be thrilled at having a Trek with a rotating cast.
In that case you should give nuBSG shot. Characters are coming, going, returning, dying, returning after death, no wait, not dead after all, etc. all the time.

I've tried getting into nuBSG several times and I just can't seem to get into it. While I would like a rotating cast, I prefer sci-fi that gives me a sense of hope for the future like Trek does. However, I too would be thrilled at having a Trek with a rotating cast.

Robert Beltran on the series finale again -
"I was very disappointed. [...] From mid season onwards I kept waiting for them to start making a move towards wrapping up some of these story arcs, but they didn't.[...]
[This] was meant to be about nine people on the ship, trying to get through some really extraordinary circumstances. Frankly, I'm not sure what it ended up being about."
An audience more tolerant of change.I wonder what makes ER work that can't work for Trek.

I guess I prefer optimisim and old fashioned values instead.I've tried getting into nuBSG several times and I just can't seem to get into it. Funny thing is I don't expect a sense of hope for the future from all sci-fi but I do expect it from Trek. In some ways BSG and Trek are two sides of the same coin. Trek gives the view of what we could accomplish if we ever get our act together and BSG gives where we're likely to end up if we continue as is. Both are possible outcomes and I find it interesting to see how they play out.![]()

Old-fashioned values, Sparky?![]()
Yep.^^ That, and I've found that Star Trek episodes usually lead to some interesting discussions with my kids on issues we might not have otherwise been able to discuss.

You find fewer & fewer "heroes" in modern TV/Film with those complete types of values. Everybody seems to be becoming shades of grey. I don't find many prime time shows that can be enjoyed by the whole family anymore. That's what I mean about old fashioned values.
To spite whatever issues we have with Voyager, you can still sit down with your kids and watch it with them and not worry too much if what they're seeing is questionable.

Hey now!The reason they only played classical and jazz music was because they thought those were both timeless enough it wouldn't date the show. It semi-backfired because now folks think the ENT crew were stuck-ups.

It's also because they didn't have to pay royalties for the music.
