Why do I own Nemesis?

"Why do I own Nemesis?"

Why? :wtf:

Here's some TAS and DS9. :D

"It came as part of this 10 film boxset..."

:GaG:

I'm going to watch "Galaxy Quest". :D

the effects and make up appliances are horrible.

Actually, I thought the Reman makeup was pretty good, and though underused Ron Perlman gives us his usual 'look at me, I can act convincingly in heavy makeup' performance as the Reman Viceroy. The Nosferatu inspiration was obvious, but never mind, I love that film. :)

But sheesh, I'd never own NEM. Seeing it exactly once in the cinemas six years ago was quite enough.

I got the Director's Edition in vain hope that watching the deleted scenes would help me like the film.

But what they cut out was even worse...

Would I own it if it was not Star Trek? I don't know. As a fan of the characters, it was fun to see them in action one last time, even if the story wasn't the strongest.

Data has no emotions.

There was a deleted scene where Geordi is going through Data's things and they find the emotion chip discarded amongst them, shame they didn't leave that scene in, it was quite touching.

2 reasons I bought it- £4 sale and i'm a completsist

It wasn't a "director's edition." The only two films that were DE's were TMP and TWOK. The other eight were called "Special Collector's Edition"s.

Better question: Why do I own it twice?!

The answer is of course that i bought the original disk, then bought the ten film set.
but still. twice.
I do watch it on occasion though, cos i have moments of 'it can't have been that bad, surely' and need to remind myself.
"lest we forget"

The bonus features, excepting the audio commentaries, are pretty interesting. That's another reason to buy the SCE of Nemesis.

By the way, is that DS9 trailer from the original NEM disc available anywhere else?

The Reman make-up wasn't bad...but the Romulan make-up was disturbingly awful. You can see the edges of the appliances, you can see pores in the actors faces where there is no appliance, the appliances don't move at all and they look like rubber. It's really horrendous work.

Not to mention the horrible...horrible voice work and ADR on the Romulan Praetor in the opening scene. And not to mention the little terrorist device that takes a couple minutes to warm up...lucky the entire Romulan Senate just stand there and stare at it.

I think we see that we all have differing opinions on the Trek movies.

Nu-uh! This is a team effort! We all need to hate it or we all need to love it, there can be no stragglers. :p

So that's what a hair splitting sounds like. :p

In this case it's the same thing, since Baird didn't want to change anything.

He wasn't going to try polishing the turd, I guess...

That's an example of a director just following the script, trying to do a dramatic (i.e. long) shot, and as a result having a silly scene. It sounds great on paper, probably. A good director can see that it's not working and change it.

"Take two--this time don't just sit there people!"

I guess they're supposed to be frozen in fear...or awe or something. Instead it looks like someone farted and everyone is trying to ignore it by looking at the cieling.

The Romulans didn't get the memo that the terror alert had moved up to "orange" that morning.

I'm not as critical of Nemesis. The cut scenes hurt it. The "Next Gen Lite" tone hurts it, although there are plenty of episodes that had that tone, so it wasn't as if they were committing blasphemy on the characters as many fans feel.
The buggy scene is ill concieved of course. But what I find more tedious is the use of a doomsday countdown formula ending which they had just done in Insurrection, and I find the starship battles too short in the latter Next Gen films. I'd rather seen the pace slow down and get a feel of the scale of the ships.
And for God's sake - the Joystick!!!! That right there is the worst idea in any of the Next Gen films, I find it even more objectionable that B4 himself. WTF with the Joystick!!??

Not to mention it's the villain blowing up his own doomsday weapon in order to take his sworn enemy with him with his dying act...

Stop me if you've seen this one.

Actually in Nemesis, Shinzon wasn't going to blow anything up. He was just going to fire the thalaron weapon on the Enterprise, then move on to earth. He was tired of playing games with Picard.

Well, I meant 'set off', i was being dramatic :D
Even before the fight with the big E Shinzon was looking pretty worse for wear. Then for some reason he impales himself on a big stick. He was also apparently running fast enough for said stationary stick to completely puncture his suit, which looks to be pretty thick leathery type material, and give him a fatal stab wound.
But it was pretty lucky, all things considered, as Picard's rifle (the same model that bashed up a Borg two films earlier) was apparently made of polystyrene.

Well the phaser had bashed up a Borg two movies earlier and he never turned it in for repairs. Poor thing was riddled with stress fractures! :D

That said, I too like Nem. Wasn't great but it was still an enjoyable two hours.

I'd have had the Enterprise save the Romulan homeworld though rather than Earth. Nothing more fitting with the spirit of Trek than defending the homeworld of a sworn enemy at such a high cost. That'd rank up there with the E-C defending the Klingons know what I mean?
