Why Didn't People Like Jadzia Dax?

What's wrong with being a country music fan? People are so prejudice against the American south it's sickening. Even more so in Enterprise...

I tend to agree. The mainstream has this stereotype of what 'all Southerners must be like' (which in turn taints anything that Southerners do stereotypically like) and it simply isn't what all Southerners are like to start with. It's one thing if you don't like country music, if you're against gun rights, et al, but it's another to dislike another person - an actor that you've never met such as Farrell - based on that.

The south must not be too bad since a lot of Yangs (Northerners, Easterners, Etc.) are (have been for decades, BTW) moving here. The south is not getting as hard hit by the recession as the North, East, and West.

The cost of living in the south is much less than on either the west or east coast or points north. After a while, some people get tired of all the high taxes, rents, etc. and LEAVE. Where do they go? Usually to a city in the South.

In fact, my point is, that so many people have moved to the south from points elsewhere they it is hardly the hick/yokel area that some perceive it to be. And not that native southerners are hicks and "kuntry bumpkins" either...

With regard to "kuntry" music, today's country music is highly derivative of what used to be called "Southern rock". If you like The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and some others then that's not too far removed from what qualifies as country now.

And it's been this way since the 80's I would say...

I'm not a country music fan. Alternative rock is my thing, but I've heard enough of it to know that country music today is not really songs about crying in your beer, your wife cheating on you and your dog dieing anymore.

Anyway, back to the uber-hottie known as...Jadzia!

Why did I LOVE Jadzia? In a word, "S P O T S" That woman made spots SEXY. Always wanted to see ALL of them. That and she was very sensual

I am always surprised by the number of people on this board that say they don't like Jadzia and I always wonder why. She was one of my favorite DS9 characters (the other being Kira)...

I liked Jadzia a lot! I don't know why people generally prefer Ezri over her. Jadzia was suprisingly new for Trek at the time.

I didn't like that she somehow got involved with every Klingon plotline ever.. in general, I found the Klingon plots to be less enjoyable on average.

I just started watching this series on Netflix and I am in the middle of the first season and this character is just so blah to me love the other characters but she is just there and I agree with some that the actress does not do anything really no emotion just watched an episode where it was about her and everyone else was awesome and she was just there no emotion I hope it gets better with her because she seems like the weak link to me I really hate being this critical and mean so not my nature

I love Jadzia Dax. She's one of my favourite characters. I was also surprised by the dislike for her on this forum. I thought the idea of a joined species was brilliant and I loved finding out about all the previous Dax hosts. Jadzia was a fun character. I loved her with Worf too.

The problem I had with her is the way they wanted her to sometimes be a man in drag. She felt qualified to hang around the Klingons and thought she could fight and be manly as well as they could. And maybe she had the memories of male lifetimes in her, but she sure didn't have the brawn, and so it just wasn't plausible. So in a way it follows the "hot chick who can fight" trope of having someone who can identify with manly stuff but isn't given the sort of physique that she'd need to have to actually pull it off, because doing so would have made her less sexy. If all she had to do was point a phaser, fine, but swinging a Bat'leth, no.

I loved Jadzia when I was younger, much more than Ezri.

These days I still definitely like her, even though Nicole deBoer was a better actress, and even though Ezri was technically a more interesting character. It's probably a natural reaction, being as we had six seasons where we were used to Jadzia and her relationships with others. Ezri was shoved down our throats too much.

I liked her just fine. I don't think her character was as developed as it could have been. Odo and the Ferengis were much more developed.

Nothing about Star Trek is plausible. Why single out Jadzia?

I'm not singling her out. Just answering the thread topic, why some people dislike the character. She always had this knowing smirk on her face. The gender-bending aspect sometimes came really close to being self-parody, sort of like how most anime gender-bending themes are handled. There's a way to do that kind of thing justice but I think it was a sign of the times.

To be fair she has the combined knowledge and experiences of 8 people and over 300 years of history Dax has personally experienced. There's probably not a lot that surprises her anymore. Even Ezri gave a full and frank summation of the Klingon Empire at the end of the series once she settled into being combined with Dax. I never saw the supposed gender bending as parody. Can you give me an example?

You can make anybody win against bodybuilders in an arm-wrestle because it's a TV-show. It doesn't mean it's plausible.
She seemed perfectly capable of handling a bat'leth on the many occasions she picked one up.
We're really going to judging the plausibility of the strength and ability of a fictional character based on the skills needed to use a fictional weapon, one whose real world use is limited?

I had a hard time believing Jadzia's skill with the Batleth. Being a smaller and lighter person than a male Klingon warrior is inevitably going to give her less power. There are other weapons and martial arts in which being smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable is a big advantage and she should have been using them. A slim woman probably wouldn't choose a 2-handed broadsword, either.
