Howdy!
In the Star Trek Universe, the Kirk/Spock/McCoy friendship was legendary. My favorite character of all the Star Trek is Mr. Scott, hence my name. Scott was a very friendly, jovial guy. He was someone who was very loyal but would never back down in a fight. McCoy to me was kind of stiff, a cranky grandfather who needed his meds.
I think maybe that Scott liked to be with his men in the engineering section and kind of did his own thing while on leave. He and his boys were probably in shore leave in some bar on Raisa cracking jokes about how much of an ass Kirk is. He only fought the Klingon in "The Trouble with Tribbles" because the
made fun of the ship, not of Kirk. So, I theorize he never tagged along was because he found Kirk boorish, McCoy was cranky and the Vulcan doesn't imbibe.
The only good part of Star Trek V was when the boys were out at Yosemite, drinking Jack Daniels around the campfire. I just wished they would of invited Scotty along. Of course Scotty would of passed out an hour before, with the rest of the guys drawing pictures on his lifeless body.
I was very sorry when James Doohan died, I have been to several conventions and have met Tekai and Koenig. Everyone has basically said that he was a good, kind man, basically about the same guy as Scotty.
