Why didn't JJ watch every episode before writing this movie?

We all know that legendary legend Nicholas Meyer watched every episode of TOS possibly up to three times before writing and directing Star Trek 2: the Wroth of Kahn. This meant that the movie was ENTIRELY consistent to Star Trek in every way as well as being a great action movie that we all know and love.

But how come JJ didn't do this? Does he think he's too busy and special and important to watch all of Star Trek? He's not. Someone should tell him he's not. He might have THE FIRST CLUE about the characters if he had done this. Kirk is NOT a comedy hand-swelling-up-hiding-under-Uhura's-bed-to-see-her-feet buffoon!

Is that you Chekov, I never forget a face.. not since that day when I first met you below decks on the Enterprise, you used all the toilet roll.

Quiet, he's trying to pick a fight and you're ruining it! :scream:

Okay, time to reference poster history on TrekBBS --

There's an incest scene in Star Trek, Baggins. Does that make you like Abrams more now? :)

Reasons Abrams didn't watch the entirety of TOS-era Trek before writing and directing this movie:

1. He's not a fan. He prefers Star Wars.

2. He didn't write it.

I don't know if I would have expected that, but it would've been nice if he'd hired someone who was already very knowledgeable about it and could've advised him.

This kind of post really has no merit..at all. Wait and see how the movie ends up, because guess what; having seen every episode of TOS doesn't equate to quality, or did you miss the entire first season of TNG.

But, then again? I see how this will play out. Some TREK fans, with their zap guns, and pointed ears, will complain about Kirk boffing a hot chic..Uhura. And the rest of the world will just laugh and say..."Dork"...

And it will be well earned..IMO..

I would be amazed if people knowledgeable about trek weren't attached to this project or do you mean a censor who would put red lines through the script?

...but, they get in the way of wanting to bash JJ Abrams... over and over and over...:klingon:
I wish I had the connections they do... how have they seen the whole movie to make all these claims?!
WTF?! They HAVEN'T seen it yet?! Then how could they possibly KNOW if JJ raped their childhood???:alienblush:

I mean someone who would have tugged on JJ's shoulder and said "hey, this contradicts that." And/Or someone who could've summarized and briefed him on anything he might need to know about the time period, characters, etc, so he didn't have to actually watch episodes because of time constraints.

Can I introduce you to one of the members of the writing team. Robert Orci. Screenwriter... Trekkie.... Um and Nimoy didn't exactly throw the script back at him in disgust.

Because their childhood has trace amounts of Abrams', errr...tachyon emissions...in it?

Like the guys who wrote the script? The ones who are Executive Producers?

You know, Baggins, we don't know the context of that scene, so you don't know how Kirk is being depicted right there. Of course, it would be you who notices character inconsistancies, wouldn't it?

Though, I think after 40 years, keeping 100% consistent (or, I guess 90% consistent in the case of TWoK) isn't near as important as making something enjoyable that is also recognizable as Trek.
