Why didn't Jacob fight back?

Because once they strike him down he will becoming even more powerful.

Ya know, considering all the people he's essentially gathered to be on the island, there might be some merit to your comment. Perhaps his power lies in those he can win to his cause and his death makes them stronger.

the other guy found his loophole. so did jacob. he prepared for this. by his death, the things he set in motion will pick up speed to finally end his opponent. i'm guessing whatever they've tried over the long years have always ended on a draw. this time they both went beyond what they normally did to try and end it. time will tell who's plan was better. either way, they knew this time it would be the end for them.

Offscreen booming voice: Esau, Jacob! Time to come in!

Esau: I don't want to!

Jacob: You let Treylane stay out later!

Well if Jacob knew that Jack was going to change the timeline then he didn't need to fight back, because even if he died in this timeline, once Jack changed the past, then Jacob would still be alive in the new timeline where 815 never crashed and Locke never took over the Others and never pushed Ben into killing Jacob.

So it didn't matter if Jacob fought back or not, because everything was about to change anyways.

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this was brought up. I'm guessing Jacob is pretty much immortal.

Alot of people seem to assume that Jacob is the "good guy". The writers/producers have a track record of messing around with us, and there are usually shades of grey over who is good/bad. Wouldn't surprise me if grey guy is the one trying to protect us all.

I do wonder if the whole point of LOST is two powerful beings Jacob and Locke 2.0 at war for control of the island and everything that has happened is basically them using pawns for there own agenda. I hope we get something with more substance than that.

Oh, I'm not convinced he's a good guy at all. I got some bad vibes from him during "The Incident." I'm not saying "Esau" is the good guy either, but I think it's going to be a situation of neither of them being ultimately good or bad.
