Why didn’t Kirk just hack Starfleet data files for Uhura’s first name

He could have easily discovered her first name if he really wanted too but he kept harassing her about it.....I guess Kirk may not be as smarts as we thought when it comes to women or he just found Uhura as a challenge since he has probably conquered all the women in star fleet including Uhura’s roommate.

Maybe Gaila didn't know her first name, either. It may be that it's not even on her public files for some reason (privacy settings?)

Kirk didn't ask anyone else her name. And he was able to hack the Kobayashi Maru test. He wanted her to tell him willingly. That was the goal, not to get the info by any means.

Contrary to Kirk/Uhura shippers...he just wasn't interested. Obviously, he didn't have time to spend on someone who didn't have time to spend on him.

If he'd been interested in pursuit, he would have gotten her name somehow, in the three years they were classmates. Kirk doesn't come across as someone who doesn't know how to get what he wants.

I think he should have just held a phaser to her head or beat her up a little bit, then She would have told him. But I guess he's not as smart as I thought he was.

Or maybe friendly banter doesn't warrant such extreme behavior. One or the other I'm not sure.

Because he wasn't interested in finding out her first name, he was interested in getting her to interact with him so he could work his charms and get her into bed.

I bet he looked up her name the minute he got to Starfleet Academy. Then pulled the old "go out with me if I can guess your name in three tries" bit. That's why Uhura's still angry with him three years later.

Uhura is pissed with Kirk because he's a brazen jackass. Not because he's taking three years to discover her name. She's not stupid, she knows he would find out her name. He's just arrogant and that doesn't really appeal to her.

To him, getting her to tell him her name is another way around the no-win situation he doesn't believe in. There's always a way to win, but there's no indication that he's trying to win her goods by doing it.
