Why did Spock not try to [spoilers]?

Some points:

Spock was there at least long enough to somehow find a cave and a piece of wood, (?) and create fire. Maybe we can chalk this up to Nero being gracious in a weird villainous way. Sort of like a jailer giving a cigarette to an inmate. But if that isn't the case, then Spock's guilty of some pretty extreme negligence for not trekking to the outpost that he knew was there and trying to warn somebody.

Is it stated on screen that Spock was told in advance that Nero was going to destroy Vulcan?

You've just come through a blackhole into the past and been captured by Nero, you're taken to the Vulcan star system and then deposited on an ice moon with no technological devices to speak of, how the heck do you a) Know where on the moon you have been dropped and therefore b) know where the moons only outpost is?

If I dropped you off in the middle of the sahara desert would you know which direction to travel to get to the nearest town? hmm?
If I dropped you off in the middle of Antarctica without any technological device would you know which way the nearest south pole base was?

The problem with the idea of Delta Vega being that close to Vulcan, of course, is Scotty's frustration at nobody bringing him food... Vulcan looked close enough for a simple shuttlecraft to resupply him.

Maybe they forgot about him? were running late? were supposed to be dropping the supplies off earlier that day but ended up on the receiving end of a Romulan drilling machine?

Why'd Scotty leave his post, anyway?

Because they asked for his help?

Also, in the novel it is implied that Spock had been on delta vega for quite some time.

I am going to disagree with the novel there. It makes no sense for him to have been there more than a day or two.

Yeah, me to. I can understand him just arriving to see the destruction. If he had been there awhile, there is no good reason for hangin out in a cave.

I also have a hard time with this scene entirely. I think it would have worked better if Nero had shown him on the viewscreen. Then he dumped him to the remote planet Delta Vega which is somewhere on the outskirts of Federation territory, not right next to Vulcan.

The Delta Vega outpost seemed too small and run down to be a major station. It seemed not much happened there and they didn't often have visitors. I find this unlikely for one right next to a major Federation planet. You would think they would have a lot of traffic considering the location. It's like building a space station on the moon and then just not using it.

I disagree with the novel, too: it actually makes no sense for Spock to have been there more than a few hours.

For both Spock and Kirk to be dropped off on the same planet, the planet must be a logical choice along the same course out of the system.

They were both dropped close to the outpost, which makes it more likely they could meet. Nero apparently left Spock there with a coat, I notice.

So, Spock is marooned on Delta Vega so that he can be witness to the destruction of vulcan. Why did he not head for the federation outpost, then using transwarp beaming simply beam himself, or scotty somewhere to warn the federation. Why do nothing?
Just curious if I missed something.

Two possibilities:

He planed to and simply hadn't yet.

He didn't want to go to the outpost and possibly further interupt the timeline.
