Why can't they say "Prime Directive" on this show?

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Title says it all. Since Disco started, every time the Prime Directive comes up everyone refers to it as "General Order 1" rather than the Prime Directive. What the hell's the deal there? For every other Trek show it's always been the Prime Directive with the term General Order 1 only being used a handful of times. Now Disco comes along and is using General Order 1 all the time and has not once said Prime Directive.

Why is this?

Discovery's real goal is to canonize all of Franz Joseph's General Orders ;)

General Order 1 says you have to follow the Prime Directive, the Prime Directive is General Order 1.

TOS used to alternate between "general order 1", "noninterference directive", and "prime directive". I think DISCO is just showing that they're still using terms that would sound anachronistic later in Trek chronology.

After all, they're still referring to phaser banks as "phase canons".

That makes sense. They probably just think that "General Order #1" sounds more 23rd century.

Yeah, TAS is the only time it was said in the 23rd century.

And it was only used twice in the 24th.

Ent didn't use "Prime Directive", and in fact, in the 22nd century it appears that the concept had not yet been codified as indicated in Archer's infamous "gazelle" speech.

So, the fact that in the 23rd century the rule is called "General Order 1" (and not, the Prime Directive), is not a surprise. ,

It’s just what TOS used to call it. Trying to keep continuity with that I’d assume. Weird the areas where they’re trying to keep to that.

Pike says "warp factor five" instead of "warp five" like some other captains. I'm sure it's just a preferential thing.

Proof it's not the Prime Universe!!!!!!! They only use the word "prime" in the Prime Universe!!!
Funny thing is that the phrase, “Kelvin timeline” is in-Prime universe saying to call that universe. The name came to be because of Star Trek Online as they needed a way to bring those ships into the game seemlessly.

The name came from CBS, the STO team didn't create it.

It was probably created the new Encyclopedia, but since STO released their KT content first, that's the first time it was used publicly.

It was created by CBS for STO to help deferentiate between the different ships.
Personally I prefer JJVerse
