Why are people spazzing?

I think 'spazzing' is just what Trek Geeks DO.

It is likely part of their genetic make-up.

Or so it would appear from hanging around HERE for over 6 years.

Hee-hee. Yes, the true test of masculinity is if you think the guys who gave us Alias and Transformers can make a Trek film that isn't generic Hollywood sci-fi tripe.

Spartacus only had to hang on cross for three days. Pussy.

we spaz because we are spazzes (sp?)!

Those kids in school were right when they called us that!

Spaz!

Maybe we shouldn't worry about people spazzing out. We're still thirteen months out from release, and Cogley's already exhausted all of the possible dick jokes; we need stuff to talk about, and as information trickles out, won't the people who are buggin' start threads and argue the toss with the people who are confident about the film?

I'm too lazy to write something articulate, so I'll just defer to jon1701's post, which is spot on.

The disconnect I have is that Trek taught so many lessons about being positive about change and the future and other cultures and experience but Trek fans on this board are so inflexible, intolerant, lack any imagination or vision or trust in others to do so. I rarely even post about Trek anymore because of it.

And it's not just a couple of people because between someone with no knowledge of film production posting passionately about how it'll be delay and someone else bitching about Kirk needing to have hazel eyes, it really takes the joy out of being a part of a Trek community.

Why are people going nuts over this? It's gonna be a movie. Some of us will like it, some of us won't. There will be cool new stuff, and some shards of canon will be swept under the couch.

Come on, guys. You're going to give yourselves a heart attack over entertainment.

Remeber entertainment? That thing that's supposed to be fun?

Entertainment is only entertainment if it's entertaining. JJ has never done anything I've ever found remotely entertaining. Knowing this, I find it slightly difficult to be upbeat about him doing the next Trek movie. This is why I'm spazzing.

Could be idiots, could be PR sock puppets. These BBS sites are like that. I find sock puppets much more annoying than idiots though. *shrug*

I used to ejaculate into both of them. Well, sweat socks and idiots.

That'd be a good Jeopardy! clue:

Alex: Sweat socks and idiots

What are things we like to come inside?

I prefer to just wait until it comes out and hopefully enjoy it.

I have seen WAAAAAAY to many posts that stated it had to be one way or another or it isn't Trek.

One post, and I am not jesting here, stated categorically that unless the new film had identical costumes, lit poorly to match the 60's TV series, identical props etc.

Then the movie would be a failure.......

Oh, I've got plenty more dick jokes coming.

I'd have even more if the Mods would keep their hands off my cock.

All due respect, but its been about two decades since I let a fun SF tv show dictate my personal philosophy. Star Trek's optimistic view of human nature is about as realistic as its portayal of spaceflight and exobiology. I accept sound in space and humans mating with aliens because it is fun to do so, so too do I accept the idea that the future will be anything other than a slow nightmare.

In the real world, however, pessimism is far closer to reality than optimism. Look at the last two presidential elections, look at the state of the environment, look at geopolitics and genocide, look at the assholes you no doubt see day in and day out. This movie is being made in the real world by real world talents who have done absolutely nothing to impress me. Why get my hopes up? Why even care?

I was hoping to see Aramis, Athos, or D'artagnan...just to shake it up a little. ;)

Actually, there is a product placement scene in the film; Pike's favorite candy bar is on his TV set in his quarters.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I don't even feel like discussing Trek because a certain percentage of fans just suck the life out of everything Trek related.
