Who's Your Holy Trinity?

The Boy Who Cried Worf

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
A while back we had a thread on the big three in all of sci-fi. I want to narrow it down a little. Going strictly on print sci-fi (novels and short stories) who are three greatest, most influential, or just your all-time favorite sci-fi writers?

My favorites, in no particular order, would be Harlan Ellison, Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.

Please don't tell Harlan that I called him a sci-fi writer, though. ;)

Asimov, Clarke, and Bradbury.

They're not my "favorites" (I don't really read a lot of "hard" sci-fi), but I'd probably put them down as the most influential.

in the original thread, clark and asmiov both made the scifi trinity, so i assume they would make the trinity of authors as well...

anyway, my trinity of strictly authors would have to be:

asimov
heinlein
bradbury

My Trinity would have to be Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein. :bolian:

Special mention goes to my Backup Trinity of Ellison, Niven and Bradbury. :D

Most influential are Asimiov, Clarke and Heinlein.

Next most would be Herbert, Doc Smith and Ellison.

My personal favourites are Banks, Clarke and Waldrop.

ROTFL! Always nice to start the day off with a hearty laugh!

Tank, DPS, and healer?

^bad gaming joke.

Heinlein, Niven, and Asimov

With H. Beam Piper as first apostle.

^Looking for more for Science Fiction Museum raid.

Already have Heinlein, Asimov and Clarke slots filled.

Just need three DPS, looking for Herberts, Pournelles and Nivens! Must have Epic novels already published! PST!

Woooo, soooo geeky.

While I absolutely LOVE watching Sci-fi on tv and at the theater I actually read very few sci-fi books. Just don't like to read sci-fi books much at all. When ti coems to reading for me its' fantasy and fiction books.

Phil K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke, and um.... Harry Lime?

I'd better get out of here before someone gets that terrible, terrible joke.

This is so pathetic.

When do you ever need more DPS?

Need healer, preferably a priest, shaman, paladin, druid, or prophet of the pink light of a Vast Active Living Intelligence System.

For me, I'd say Asimov (how obvious is that one?), Herbert, and, uh... hm. I'm having a tough time trying to pick out a third. I have mixed feelings on Bradbury (I liked The Martian Chronicles, but I was a little disappointed in Fahrenheit 451... haven't read anything else of his), I've only read one Heinlein book (Stranger in a Strange Land), which I mostly enjoyed, even though I had a few issues with it, and I must shamefully admit I've never read anything by Clarke or Ellison.

Eh, just to be different, I'll say John Wyndham, as I highly enjoyed both The Day of the Triffids and The Chrysalids... I should really check out more of his stuff someday.

Frank Herbert - the first four Dune novels are masterpieces
Stephen Baxter - I just flat out enjoy the Xeelee Saga
Ben Bova - he has some really awesome ideas

You can crucify me for not going the Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke route now.

Asimov, Clarke and Heinlein are certainly the most influential.

My favorites are Asimov, Orson Scott Card, and Gordon R. Dickson.
